Are these fairly accurate representations of how the "ghosted" look is? I'm a little concerned about spending all that time to install the HUD and have it be too blury because of the windshield.

Also, has anyone with a 2010 upgrade to a 2011+ windshield. If so, did it make a big differnce in the clarity and brightness of the display?

If you get the 2011 windshield for a HUD car then it will be as good as from GM, some one did but dont remember who, and no that pic is not epresentations of how the ghosting looks on the car, its there but not to the degree in the pics.

Doesn't look at all like that, I've had 2011 owners look at mine and they say it looks pretty much the same. I'll be at the Wounded Warriors Car Show at Bruce Lowrie on Oct 6 if you want to come by and take a look.

Do all 2011's have the same windshield (1LT/1SS vs 2LT/2SS)? I have a 2011 1LT and wondered if it has same windshield as a 2011 factory equipped with HUD.

There are many different windshields for the Camaro, the HUD version is surely different with wedge PVB (that's the inner layer) as well as a special bend for the image to display properly....

With no HUD in 2010 you will need to buy a 2011 version.... I believe they are interchangible.... With some possible frit differences....

So, ensure you buy a HUD version or the ghosting is a guarantee...

I have a 2011 1LT already and am going to do HUD, but wondered if a 2011 1LT has the same windshield as a 2011 2LT. Would think so but thought maybe someone here knew for sure.

I believe the windshield is different between HUD and non-HUD models, but I have had owners with 2011's with HUD's look at my 2010 and basically is no difference between the two. Go ahead and do the HUD and if you ever have to replace the windshield, then replace it with a HUD windshield. Have had mine for almost two years now and hate driving a vehicle without it.

I believe the difference between the 1LT and the 2LT windshields (outside of electrocromatic rear view mirror, acoustic inner layer, and rain sensor options) is the HUD option...

The 2LT had the HUD and the 1LT did not.... All do use the same glass (EZ-Kool) which is solar absorbing...

I have done the HUD upgrade on my 2010 Camaro 2LT. The Hud image was good with the current 2010 windshield. I recently had to replace my windshield with the HUD windshield and the image is sharper than before. Either way the HUD is a mod that I am proud of doing and enjoy it every day. I recommend this mod and will help any one in Tyler, Texas area.

For the price difference I would go with the GM HUD. Tied to the Bus where you have control of seeing radio, cruise control, telephone etc.

I may be wrong but I think you also need to add an item to the windshield also for it to display.

So this is what i now have for the job I have the wiring Schematics and the cut always of the dash, i have the wiring harness and the switch coming in and there not much $ so far.

When i get to work i will post all the papers i have now.

OK prices are out for all the parts, I updated the front page with GM list prices you can get the parts for a lot less, but that is up to you as it looks now at list this is $650 but if you got to one of the discount GM Parts houses you are at 425+ or

Switch: Part # 92224604 GM LIST: $22.50
HUD: Part # 92205982 GM LIST: $572.92
HUD Trim: Part # 92227455 GM LIST: $10.18
5Pc bolt's to hold the HUD in place GM part # 11609465 GM LIST: $0.61

Last thing you need is 5 clips to hold the HUD in the dash Part # 11610157 GM LIST: $4.39 I did a 2012 car and the clips where there in the car.

That is all the parts you need to order If you want to Do this with my Harness.

If you want to make your own Harness you need to add this to your order and then connect the two and wire up the 4 wires that come out of it.

Harness to Switch: Part # 19115655 GM LIST: $166.82
Harness to HUD: Part # 92225478 GM LIST: $16.49

Or if you want a harness from me here is the link.
http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...73#post3119573

Tools you need:
Thin 4:-6" flat head screwdriver to remove steering wheel air bag and locks on all air bag connectors.

10 MM hand screwdriver to remove the 2 battery cables on the battery. (do not close the trunk)

7 MM hand screwdriver to remove and install all the screws on the side of the dash and the radio.

A 5"-8" long med Phillips Head Screwdrivers to remove and install all the screws on the side of the dash and under the dash and in the dash and the center consul.

1/4 drive you will need a long and short Extensions for the instrument panel and for under the passenger glove box.

You need some TORX A 15 in 1/4 drive and a 37 in 3/8 drive i think for you steering wheel.

You will need a 10MM Socket 3/8 drive to remove the plastic tray that holds the XM/Onstar and the battery back up under the passenger glove box.

Now you need a 13MM Socket 3/8 drive to remove the two bolts for the passenger air bag. (this connector has a small white lock so get it right or you have an air bag warning)

You will have a hard time with 2 things, One the two Phillips Head Screws on the back of the consul are in a bad spot you will see so if you have a 90% Phillips Head Screwdriver or flex use it, Next is the one Screw in the top front of the dash its a 7mm but with the windshield in place is fun so you need a 1/4 drive and a swivel to get it out, Now the fun part is getting it back in I say as soon as you get it out take the Screw and get some RTV and add it to the head of the Screw and put in in the Socket this way it dry and dos not fall out as you install it back.

Last part is the wire for the Light sensor This you need the string from the trunk Remember the concept car.

Good luck.

For the ppl that want the part numbers for a new windshield from the 2011 cars here is the list.

Here are the 4 windshield numbers out for the 2011 camaro.
1: 92249671 EXC Remote start, HUD
2: 92249673 Remote start, HUD
3: 92246972 Remote start, EXC HUD
4: 92246974 EXC Remote start, EXC HUD

All 4 have a list price of $566.53

Lits of member that will help out, please be nice send a PM to that member and aske for help.

Not sure if anyone said this. Didn't feel like searching through 74 pages. But wouldn't some kind of special film already cut out to place over that part of the windshield work a lot better than buying a whole brand new windshield??? I'm just saying lol

I have to say the HUD windshield is better than the non-hud for clarity. I had to replace mine due to a crack so I decided to go with the HUD version. Is it needed??? No IMHO its not worth the expense unless the glass needs replacement.
