My First Test and Tune!

Yeah-boy! I took my L99 to the San Antonio Raceway for my first Test and Tune on Wednesday...THAT WAS A BLAST! I got twelve runs in before I left (yes, 12)! The only mod on my car is a Roto-Fab CAI, so I figure I'm putting about 330-335 hp to the rear wheels...it was about 87 degrees out and pretty humid (rained pretty good later that night). My best time (attained on run #7) was a 13.55 seconds at 103.83 mph, with a 2.07 second 60-ft time! What-a-rush!!

Most of my runs were around 13.66 seconds or so...TC on or off didn't seem to matter. Except for one thing...on my fastest run I forgot to turn off the TC. I launched at about 1200 RPM, too. Getting the tach up to where you want it and steady before you launch is harder than I thought...there's not much time--especially if you stage second.

I was in Stabilitrak Competitive Mode for most of the runs. I did one run with everything turned off...didn't seem to make much difference. I also tried one run using tap-shift...that did NOT go well...I hadn't practiced that enough...but it felt like the potential was there for a fast run, if I could refine the technique.

All-in-all, this was an OUTSTANDING experience! Cannot wait to do it again...

Ummm, one question though...this type of racing has got to be tough on the car. How often do most of you do this? Every week? Once a month? Help a noob out!

Good job.

The DA's probably around 3000 ft this time of year in San Antionio so that's a pretty good run.

And I don't even think about using the tap shift at the track. Its really hard to make pefect shifts at the right rpms using the tap shifts. It's better to let the computer do the shifting.

Thanks SGOS252382,

I found a web site that does the DA conversion for my track. Here's the link:

http://www.dragtimes.com/da-density-...calculator.php

I entered the info for my best run and here is the result (13.14 seconds at 107 mph)...Not bad!

With an automatic it's really not too bad on the driveline and suspension unless you put a high stall converter in the trans and start running drag radials. The autos don't shock the rearend near as bad and make your drag times much more consistent too. Just like anything, the harder you run it the shorter it's lifespan but GM did a good job with the cooling system in the Fifth gen and these motors are very durable so I wouldn't sweat it - have fun and race it!

Very solid times...

Mark your calendar for Sept 18th and just a little further down I10. H-Town Camaro Club is putting on the 2nd Annual Texas Camaro Nationals in Sealy Tx.

We will have stock classes for cars like yours and even a V6 class. Looking to get a bunch of 5th Gens matched up evenly for this one. Should be a lot of fun.

Appreciate it...it's good to know the car is living up to expectations...

Sept 18th probably won't work for me...the wife and I will be celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary--we may be on a cruise (still working that out)--good info tho...will have to get out there for one of those!

I'm loving this Roto-Fab--really brought the sound of my car to life! Somehow though, I ended up with only one Roto-Fab sticker...and it appears to be black (I need silver). Can I order more from your web-site?
