ZL1 Photo Shoot

I'm in the process of taking a hobby in photography and turning it into a small on the side business. My main focus is automotive and two weekends ago I had the opportunity to get some photos for a guy here locally with a beautiful ZL1. My first step is to get a portfolio together and this was my first shoot in that direction. Thought some of the members may enjoy...

Thanks! They are bright wheels but not chrome. They were the factory wheels which I'm guessing is like a painted aluminum or polished. Not really sure on the exact finish

I've done the same, made my hobby of photography into a small side business . Good angles of your subject and good background, not too busy. Would suggest that you use some kind of light reflector or some other form of lighting to fill in the shadows, especially the shot of the engine bay. Overall great shots and a good eye.

Thanks! I agree.. I had a couple off camera stobes for the car shots but didn't use anything for the engine bay. The sun was just at the right spot to flood too much light from that right side

Yea of course, right now I'm using a Canon 5D Mark II. I just upgraded from a Canon Rebel XS which was a good camera for me, but I love the sharpness and low light performance from the 5D.

Haha yea they're pricey, but the great thing about the mark II is its a fairly old model so there's lots of great deals on slightly used ones if you know where to look. Still had to convince my wife it was a good "investment" though... Hope it proves to be

Thank you, I set up my camera on a tripod and used a remote trigger to take several shots at different exposures and with an off camera strobe helping to light up the dark side of the car and wheels. Then I used photoshop to lay all the images on top of each other and let the parts show through that I wanted to brighten up or make a little darker. I think the sharpness comes from the right contrast that's achieved with that kind of post processing, but sometimes I will also apply a sharpen mask to clear it up a bit.
