I got nailed one time by a speed camera van in Tempe, AZ. Tempe Police have an Astro van that they move around to different locations around the city.

They have one here in Baton Rouge that catches people flying by in the right lane because an the stop light its 2 lanes but 20ft pass the light is one lane so they get caught speeding to get ahead in the single lane...

And if you see anyone shooting at the red light cameras, please call 911 immediately giving police the make, model, color, and license plate # of the vehicle that just broke the law. We'd like to find the owner of that stray bullet that misses the camera (or ricochets) hitting that innocent 2 year old playing in the front yard of their home with mom and dad a few blocks away.

Better yet, don't shoot at the camera and just don't run the light.

We don't want any violence. Someone innocent could get hurt.

Just climb up there and put a piece of paper over it.

2 things.....first off you don't "run" a speeding camera, you just go about your daily routine and get a ticket in the mail. It's simply a cash cow with no regard for slowing people...black and white cars do a better job at that.

Second off, I was kidding about shooting the cameras, but hopefully you can understand my frustration with them. If not, then I suggest reading the book 1984 and let me know if that's what you want for this country.

I don't like the idea of the law being enforced by camera without human judgement being considered. Many officers of the law are reasonable people that can tell the difference between someone who crossed the line by an inch and didn't really deserve a ticket.

I’d like to see some cameras to send people tickets for blocking intersections, but the rest seem to make driving significantly less safe.

As long as you enter on a yellow and don't block the intersection, you will be fine!

I know you were kidding. I know you guys wouldn't do that.
And I didn't say "run" a speeding camera. I said "just don't run the light."
Sorry...I know you were kidding, but I jumped in there like this policeman always does.

I actually got a ticket for running a red light, I entered the intersection the light was yellow, and it was still yellow as it dissappeared from my sight, but the cop said it turned red before I was completely through the intersection, so he gave me a ticket. It was a judgment call on my part to go through since I was following a truck, and my 7000 lb beast does not stop on a dime, and no I was not following the truck to close.

Sorry about that^^^

I hear the stories about that and I know it happens. I won't do it unless it's blatant. And...there is NO complaining when I write the ticket! > Seriously, I have not had ONE "red light" ticket go to court because the red light tickets I have written have all been 100% obvious. If the officer is not sure, he should not make the stop. Plain and simple. That's how it SHOULD work, but does not work all the time. I know.

top gear proved that if you can go through the intersection around 177mph, the camera won't catch you.

ps - i wouldn't recommend it though.

Dude, be quiet ( directed towards op and others whom agree ). It's not hard to follow the law. Don't run a red light and don't speed, simple as that. There is no reason as to why you should have to run a red light. It's not like as you get to the intersection the light skips from green to red immediately, all together avoiding yellow. You get what you deserve.

Heard Moses Lake, WA had cameras all over the place to take pictures of violations and then mail you a ticket. I bet they make a lot of money.

It's not a question of whether or not it's illegal.
http://blogs.cars.com/kickingtires/2...one-wrong.html

http://www.thenewspaper.com/news/28/2865.asp

There are even more instances of the cameras ticketing people for making perfectly legal turns on red AFTER a complete stop.

The other fact of the matter is that the camera removes your ability to face your accuser.

And lastly, they do NOTHING to increase safety, in fact, they probably cause more accidents than they prevent.

I'm sorry, but I don't think law enforcement should be used for profit. That's absolutely ridiculous. I think we should be keeping our police officers in their jobs, and promoting safety, not manipulating citizens for profit.

I'm all for traffic enforcement by a HUMAN, because that actually keeps our communities safer.

And, I'm all for non-violent protest of the cameras. I don't think destroying them is a particularly good idea, although that tends to be the trend in Europe. I'm a much bigger fan of some other antics involving them, such as putting paper over the camera, wrapping them in wrapping paper, etc.

Edit: And here's my favorite part.
Quote:
A 2004 Texas Transportation Institute study proved that going one-second beyond such bare minimum signal timings yielded a 53 percent reduction in tickets, but more importantly it reduced accidents by 40 percent.
So, basically city governments are signing contracts for red-light cameras and agreeing to set signal times to bare minimums to increase revenue and profit, at the expense of safety.
