Very happy with this radar detector mount

Purchased a visor mount bracket from Southern Car Parts for $25 and a direct wire cord for $10. Mounted Escort 9500 on driver side. Took around 20 minutes to push the wire in the headliner and clip it to another wire below the dash. Great setup and easy install!

Isnt it better to mount the radar lower, like on the dash? or is it as high as you can?

High would seem to be best coming over hills. At least IMHO.

A benefit of mounting it on a visor mount is that its nicely concealed from the outside view. I've read in the past that higher is better, but for models with GPS you have to make sure it has a clear view of the sky.

A member here was making the same bracket a while back...but it seems that he's not around any more.

It looks like his bracket or a clone. I bought one for a PP 9500xi. The slot to lock the detector into is not far enough back to get a solid clamp, but a dremel tool mod fixed that. It is a nice mount up high and out of the way. I mounted it on the passenger side.

Radar Roy recommends mounting low. Escort recommends the same for laser, but indicates that a higher placement might do better for radar. Some guy named Harry McCaul says that low is a better idea.

I'd go with a low mount.

I was going to get one, but shipping is 3 times what it should be and they never answered my question as to whether or not it really works with Beltronics.

Revived this thread from the dead, to ask a question. Does this mount limit the use of the sun visors? I know the visors are pretty much useless anyway, but I had to ask

You didn't ask, but I just installed a blendmount.

VERY expensive @ $90, but very secure.

Now I just need someone to try out the invisicord option for wiring to a 2012 mirror (with rear-view display) before I try myself....

Anyone care to try it for me?

please....

Wouldn't the blend mount completely kill the visibility? I'm only asking this because i love that one and if it doesn't obstruct visibility that bad I might buy it

Is it easy to remove the radar detector with the blendmount? I'm asking because I figure I'll put my radar detector in the glove box or something when I'm not in my car so people don't get tempted to steal it…do most people remove their detector when parking in public places?
