HELP! Ruined paint..

Well, I went to a friends house who lived in a pretty nice neighborhood, which led me to believe that my car was safe if I were to leave it parked over night. Next morning, when walking to my car, it noticed that it was a bit dirtier than the night before, but figured it could be the rains fault and thought little of it. On the way home though, I started to notice some clues that gave me the idea that someone had vandalized my car… including small drops of what I once thought was dirt all over the roof and trunk of my car and dried drips of SOMETHING running down my passenger window. I'm still not too sure what it could be on my paint, but I really do assume its paintballs or something of the sort judging from the orange/yellow color, which blended in with my paint. I figured I'd just have to accept that my car got messed with, and headed home to wash it. After spending a few hours cleaning my car, while drying I realized that the "paint" wasn't coming off of my car... After washing, the "paint" had come off, but left a glossy film where it used to be. Right now, my car looks like its been covered with hairspray, and it seems like nothing is working to get the paint off...

Long story short, a jealous asshole messed with my car and after washing the "paint" off, a glossy film was left in its place which I haven't been able to remove. I plan on taking it to the dealer as soon as I have free time, but meanwhile can anyone offer any suggestions on what I should do? Has this happened to anyone and have they had any luck on removing the paint/ film? The paint is all over the roof and sides of my Camaro. My car is inferno orange. HELP!!!

Has anyone had any issues with Camaro paint that they'd like to share? Especially with the Inferno Orange color.
I say "paint" because I still am not too sure what it is, seeing as how nothing is working to removing it.
I'll post pictures soon.

Do you think that the dealer will be able to do anything about it? A friend tried everything from dish soap to polish, but it didn't worked and said it might have to be buffed. It looks like someone sprayed Hair Spray over my car, but its the gloss left over from the paintball.

A professional detailer or paint shop should be able to take care of it with a buffer and some polish.

Yep, get some fine cut cleaner which is the same as a fine cut rubbing compound for clearcoat.

What #2^ said. Wash with Dawn, then clay bar with detail spray as wetting agent (rub somewhat hard)...then wax if clean...if not detail/body shop to clean it up...

See second vid (part II) down for how to clay in case you have not done such..

Find an auto body paint supply store, and ask if the have SEM Solve.

It is a great solvent and overspray remover. If they don't have that brand, just ask for another solvent based overspray remover.

I've had great luck with SEM Solve taking off just about anything, and it won't hurt the paint. Just wash and wax afterwards.

I'd stay away from any abrasives or buffing. The right solvent should get it off.

I talked to some guys at an automotive center and they recommended Scratch Doctor, then some Meguiars Wax afterwards. I tried it, and still this stuff isn't coming off, not even a little... I guess I'll look into that solvent as soon as I find a distributer or something.

Do you guys think that the warranty on these vehicles will cover the damage?

Yeah, I wish I found the ****ing kids that did this. Would clay baring have any chance against this even though something like Scratch Doctor didn't?

"Oh, hey Chevy... this stuff just popped up on my paint... FIX IT?"

Must have been some nasty and cheap paintballs. I am an avid paintballer and that stuck should wash right off. How long could it have been on the car?

I left at like 1 PM, it had some time to sit in the sun. It rained the night before so it was still a bit cloudy in the morning, and its always super humid in Houston. Yeah, either going to a detailers or dealership soon.

Hah, I live in Katy too.. I'll check out ProEdge, thankfully its in Houston hah.

Here are some photos, but they were taken with my phone so it was hard to get this stuff to show up. The spots you see aren't from water, but its the gloss that I'm talking about that was left over after the paint was washed off. I had to get the right angle with the light too so you can only see sections.. but imagine this all over the roof, trunk, and driver side door.

try rubbing it off using a small sample of gasoline in a tiny area, ive tried this method on older cars but im not sure how it will react to the camaro's paint... good luck

I feel really bad for you. So sorry this happened and these punks have caused you all this misery. I would call my insurance agent and file a claim to have the car repainted. If you have Allstate or another top company they should take care of it (my Allstate agent helped me get my F150 fully repainted after vandalized and my premium never went up...because was no accident). Bringing it to a detailer and buying chemicals are never going to make this right IMO. Good Luck to you.

Get an orbital buffer and scratch remover.

I know you said you already tried...but sometimes you really need to hit it with the electrical stuff. Let the orbital do all the work.

Okay, well no one shoot me when I tell you about my story I have similar to this. It was a total accident BTW...

Let me start by saying that I am not a handy man and have always been one to hire someone to do upgrades to the house, mow the lawn, change my oil, repair the car, etc...

I decided to surprise my wife and stain all of the fences on the perimeter of our house. So I went to Lowes picked up a sprayer and 2 of the 5 gallon tubs of cherry stain. I spent the entire day staining the fences. We have just under a 1/2 acre of property which is huge for So Cal. The wind picked up about 1/2 way through the process started to feel real nice outside because it was a hot summer day. So I wrapped it all up about an hour before my wife got home and was SOOO proud of myself. I cleaned out the sprayer and waited for my wife to get home from work. I got a knock on my door and I figured it was my wife needing help getting into the house. When I opened the door it was my neighbor and he complimented the fences. Told me it really looked great. That comment went something like this... "Hey, the fences came out great nice job. 1 problem though. My 2 cars got a new paint job as well". My heart stopped. I walked over to his house and sure enough his 2 cars a suburbon and a custom 59 Impala had a thick spraying of fence stain ALLLL over it. The wind picked up more than I thought and because I was spraying the fences and not using a roller it all blew straight onto his cars. I felt like total crap and didnt know what to do. I called up a local detail shop that works on alot of very nice cars and he said they would check them out. We drove both of his cars over there and $1,200 later and 2 days of detailing they got all of it out. Claying looked like it took out 95% of it after that he did a full detail on it. The cars ended up looking better than I had ever seen them. My neighbor was really happy with the outcome of it. I told him that if he decided he was unhappy with it that I would get his cars repainted. He insisted that he was pleased. He jokes about it now saying his car needs a new detail job and if I was planning on re-staining the fences any time soon.

Next time I am hiring a professional to stain my fences. LOL

svrds10 - Wow, that's crazy! That was an expensive lesson :(

To the OP, you definitely don't need to repaint. Those pics clearly look like it's on the clearcoat and not etched into the paint. They look like water spots to me. Paintballs haven't contained actual "paint" in them in nearly 20 years. It's all edible gelatin and food dye. I would imagine the same treatment needed to remove stubborn water spots would work (as others have said) - Claybar will probably get rid of more than half of it, then use a swirl remover(Adams SHR, Zaino Z-PC, etc) with a porter cable to remove the rest. Your paint will be better than showroom new after that.

A professional detailer can do it, but you could buy the PC and products for probably what they would charge you and do it yourself. Then you'd have the stuff for the next time your paint requires correction.. and it will

that really bites, i would try claybaring over them pretty good and if that doesnt work get some meguiars scratchx 2.0, this stuff has saved my azz so many times, iv got dried paint from painted poles off bumpers, got out deep water spots that nothing else would get it out and countless other stuff. some was even by hand and trust me even a cheap buffer should do you good. I would personally do that. Good luck.

I'm with Viral on this one...

However... Maybe its just me, but the damage looks similar to clear coat failure "crows feet" from waxing too early.

Is that damage all over the car? or just in those two isolated spots?
