MGW vs Hurst (gmpp) vs Barton

Looking to upgrade. Don't like the "noise" reported with the Hurst. How do guys with the MGW and Barton feel about their respective products?

Thanks

Hurst now includes a silencer kit so the noise early adopters reported is no longer an issue. Its hard to beat 50+ years on experience engineering race and high performance shifters.

After trying some of the popular one's out there they all have a different feel to them. For me the hurst while looks very nice was not quite what i was looking for. The only thing you have to be prepared for is the side to side play. It can be up to 1/4 of a inch. If you can go to some camaro meets and ask the owners if you can try the after market shifter they have. You will have no problem finding this its a popular mod.

since you're in valencia why not just drive down to Hurst (25 min away) and have a look at the engineers car so you can see what its like. I'm sure once you see and touch it you will realize noise it not an issue

It may be your car that has the play in it, My car dos not have any play from side to side, And if i run in to you, Not only can you sit and try the shifter but i will take you for a ride.

If you can...Drive the car, the shifter feels a lot different when your driving then it does when your just sitting in it going through the gears. Ive had to remove a few of these shifters do to excessive side slop and noise, even with the quiet kits they come with now.

IMO Barton and MGW get the win hands down. Ive installed all 3 and for me I went with Barton. TONS of options and different looks you can choose from.
Also I think Barton is the only Camaro5 supporting Vendor, I could be wrong but I havent seen any threads from either Hurst or MGW.

MGW

I installed an MGW shifter in my car. I had the rare opportunity to drive both a Hurst and an MGW (and of course the stock shifter). They are both far better than the stock set up. There was, however, no comparison. The MGW feels sure and true ... all shifts are confident. It may have been a bit stiff at first, but I thought it felt great that way. It loosened up in a couple days at most ... or maybe I just got used to it. The stronger centering spring action makes 2nd to 3rd shifts pure and quick. It just clicks into gear. I like pushing a bit to get into 5th and pulling a bit to get into 1st. I also like the way it feels to skip around ... 2nd straight to 4th etc ...

I think it makes a big difference that the MGW is the complete shifter and not just a shaft. It completely replaces the entire stock system and it is quite easy to install. It was extremely easy for me to install because I did it at the same time that I installed my Texas Speed exhaust system, so there were no pipes in the way.

I opted for the retro shaft. It's appearance reminds me of the early 70's Hurst shifters. I also love how the knob (white with black rally stripes) matches my car.

I highly recommend the MGW shifter ...

Thanks Toast - great review of the MGW. Charlie at RPM out here where I live said the same things you did. He's doing my installs and dyno tuning. Great choice on the white with black rally stripes, car and shift knob.

I like the Barton but my tuner swears by the MGW as it is a complete shifter replacement not just the shaft.

Toast - I love my 2011. However it makes a wierd rattling sound in reverse and first gear when rolling and the clutch out. If I push the clutch pedal back down fully there is this wierd rattle. Not sure what it is?

I did alot of research on all three, I liked the total replacement and workmanship of the MGW, liked the price and workmanship of the the Barton, liked the name brand and reputation of the Hurst, traditional Head vs. Head vs. Heart kinda battle, went retro with the Hurst and did install the NVH kit with the Hurst and the more I drive it the more I like it, good workmanship, looks nice, and the price was good.

Any new info? What do you all think now that it's been a couple of years. Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I was trying to do my homework instead of just starting a new thread.
