Notchy third?

My LS3 has about ~1300 km's on it and as far as I know, from day one, shifting to third gear from second has been notchy. 1-2 is smooth as is 3-4 and 4-3 however midway through the engagement when shifting 2-3 there is a noticeable notch that is more pronounced when driving aggressively. I've been planning on changing the tranny oil to some Mobil 1, and possibly upgrading the shifter after as well.

I also test drove a 2SS with ~12 000 km's and it did the same thing. Can anyone comment on the smoothness of their shifter? Specifically 2nd to 3rd.

I just came in hear to ask about this same thing! When I am driving "normally" I have no problem going into third gear but if I am really getting on it I have trouble getting it to actually to go into 3rd at times. I thought that it was just me and that I was doing something wrong but I may have to rethink this if you are having the same issue. I've only driven "spirited" 5 times now and 3 out of the 5 times I have had the 3rd gear issue.

The effort is still the same for me, it's just that it feels a lot more 'crunchy' when the revs are up.

I have just hit 1800 miles today and from day one...same thing happens to me when shifting to 3rd. WEIRD!!!

So this doesn't seem like an isolated problem, no doubt many more people have the same problem. I'm planning on switching the tranny oil for some Mobil 1, will give an update on if it does anything once I get around to doing it :P

Same here, notchy third if getting on it. Never so much a grind, just feels like you're clipping the gear a little.....

I'm having issues getting into second. I don't remember any issues getting into third.

I'm taking it to the dealer tuesday and making them deal with it.

+1 on the 1st to 2nd notchy shifting. Yes, it's even grinded gears during spirited driving too. I took it to Connell Chevrolet in Costa Mesa and they said, "It's operating as designed". What a freakin' joke! That's is just pure laziness! Now it's at Selman Chevrolet in Orange. I hope they step up, thoroughly investigate and fix the problem. To me it feels like the clutch does not fully disengaging and has worn the synchros. What's strange is it's notchy whether I'm sitting in the driveway with the engine turned off or driving.

I have the Hurst short throw and get that grind from 1st to 2nd often on spirited driving. I'm not too happy with that at all.

Besides driving like Miss Daisy, anyone have any suggestions? change the shifter out? Something else that could help?

think synchros...but what's the fix???

I seem to have the same exact issue shifting from 1st to 2nd. I have a 2011 Camaro LS M6 with under 200 miles. It seems notchy shifting from 1st to 2nd...no grinding noise just "feel" like it's grinding a little as I move it into 2nd gear. I usually shift around 3k rpm as well. Anyone have any clue as to why this may be?

Same problems here primarily from second to third even after replacing fluid with RP Syncromax. Taking to dealer tomorrow. Took it once to another dealer already for clutch sticking halfway up on aggressive starts and notchy shifting. Was told there was no problem... I say BS.

I'm trying Mobil 1 synthetic ATF this weekend as recommended by other members. I'll let you know if it helps!

Same issue here. I've also visited my dealer, and was told that it's a normal characteristic of the M6, and " It's a muscle car, it's supposed to make a little grind noise" ..... I also swapped out the tranny fluid for Mobil1 Syn. ATF with no change....

I still have 4 years on my warrantee.... We shale see how "normal" it's going to be later on ....

What do they take us for, a bunch of morons? People who say such idiotic things aught to be fired! "It's supposed to grind"? Anyway, I hope the Mobil 1 helps mine, some guys say it does, others say it doesn't. I'll find out soon!

I switched it out to RP Synchro and it helps during cold weather. However, I've never had a problem shifting or grinding until going from 2-3 with this car. High RPMs it seems like the synchronizes can't keep up. Bleh

Anyone find anything out? My M6 has been notchy going from 2-3 since day one.... I currently only have 2100 miles on it. It only seems to happen around 40-50% of the time... I'm going to take it in soon to see what they say but I'm not optimistic about what they will say.

I tried the Mobil1 syn ATF, didn't help. I'm going to talk to my service manager this weekend, for the 3rd time!

I just dropped it off at the dealer and they were able to duplicate the 2nd gear problem on a test drive! WE'll see what they come up with!
