Ball Bearing

How much of a difference do people notice a ball bearing turbo spooling faster then a regular turbo. Like a twin turbo vs ball bearing twin turbo. How many rpms faster does it spool. Is it worth the money to buy ball bearing turbo and do they last longer?

If you have a gt35 journel bearing and a ball bearing turbo, and compair their respective spool times on multiple engines, you will see the ball bearing spool considerably fast especially on smaller engine. On your LS car I would estimate 300-400 rpms.

Is it worth the upgrade, I would say yes because your getting better throttle response and shifting your power curve to the left, creating more use-able horsepower and torque.

Regards

The negative is that it's considerably MORE expensive to rebuild it.

I'd have to see the 300-400rpm quicker spool too. That's a lot of rpm for a 6.2L motor. I wouldn't think it would be near that much.

Journal bearing = Stone Age, Ball Bearing = New Age

Once you get balls you never go back.

I would not even consider running a journal bearing.

I built and own the worlds Fastest OEM snowmobile, at 4.82 140.81 in 660 ft. on ice.

My son built and owns the Worlds Fastest Toyota MR2 at 9.66 144.92 in 1/4 mile

Both are Powered by Ball bearing Garrett Turbos.

Ted.

Yes the down side is they are 9 times out of ten not rebuildable, but they are far better like Ted mentioned.

Make certain to have the oil inlet restrictors in place should be like .040 or so to limit the oil pressure to around 40 psi or so as not to damage the cartridge, or what the manufacture says to run the inlet pressure at.

Regards

I agree that they are VERY nice and spool a good bit faster on the smaller displacement engines. I just question the amount of RPM gain on a big ass engine like ours.
