Thumbs up Check out my dad's new ride

I don't have any pics of my own yet, my digital camera is broken . so i found one identical to his.

1997 Chevrolet Corvette targa top hatchback coupe. has the 6speed manual tranny instead of the auto. It was 15 grand and only had 28k miles on the clock . I cannot WAIT to drive it .

The car in the picture looks like the FRC (fixed roof coupe), is your dads new C5 a hatchback with targa top?

Nice car nonetheless - those ride on rails

as i said in the first post it is a targa top hatchback coupe. i did a search for a 1997 corvette that was red. as far as I know they did not offer the fixed roof coupe until the 99 model year along with the new Z06 model. I am pretty sure that pic IS a hatchback it is just the angle of the shot. remember the C5 vette's hatchbacks did not have as much glass as the C4 cars.

I've forgotten how curvy and flowing those Vettes were, i'm so used to the Musclular features of the C6's.

I was always partial to the C3 cars especially the last of them (80-82)

He was looking at one just like this but dark red almost burgundy almost the color of a can of dr pepper .

First off, I would have loved to have come across a deal like that one up there. Very nice vette!

Second, my dad owned a vette just like this one but it was cream in color. I loved that vette. Two weeks after he sold it, the tires were stolen off of it. Then, a few days later, the whole car was stolen. Guess he got rid of it at just the right time.

One of my teacher's have a "Camaro Red" (he calls it ) 66 stingray convertable. Beautiful.

And maybe he didn't get rid of it in time, but the fool who bought it (hope it wasn't a family member:o) wasn't careful enough with it.

Dang Tag, does crappy luck with thieves stealing cars run in your family? :( That would really suck!

Actually, I've only had my Chevy 1500 truck stolen. They meant to burglarize it for the stereo...but someone left the keys in the seat cover pouch....

Ouch! I'll bet you're extra careful with the SS now though Gosh, can you imagine how paranoid we'll all be when we get our new ones?! Get out of the car to walk in a store and somebody stares, I'll be all like "WHATCHU LOOKIN AT?!?"

Yeah...I've been complaining that I need to get more excersize. This is one heck of an easy way to get that extra walking...parking it waaaaaay out there in the parking lot. Or, just park it between the Jag and the Benz.

well it seems he is NOT gonna get the 97 vette but he will most likely get the 1980 in the 2nd picture. the car is dark red almost a burgundy color almost the color of a Dr Pepper can . The '80 has the 230hp 350 cube engine with a auto tranny. it has 65k miles on the clock. Here is a pic that the seller took. the only thing he does NOT like are the wheels, which I DO like myself.

the car has had a whole new cooling system installed including an aluminum radiator. as well as new exhaust from the exhaust manifolds back. the seller also installed an after market Eldebrock (not sure of spelling :o ) intake manifold and a Holley 4 barrel carb. those mods along with the exhaust make the engine closer to 300 hp over the stock 230 . Both my dad and I got to drive it and as much as i LOVE the '97 I would be just as happy if he bought the '80 instead .

Seriously...I'd love to have a vette like my dad had....and a 97...and an 07...and well, you get the point. But, I'd love to have one like dads. That is a gorgeous looking vette and looks from this picture to be in great shape.

The car below is a Z06 - the roof setup to me it looks just like the car you posted, take a look at the roof right behind the windshield trim

Also, from what I remember, the FRC was available as a 1999 and a 2000 model. The first Z06 wasn't until 2001

Not making a big deal out of it, just an observation. Get some pics of your dads new ride soon

actually that is NOT a Z06, as it does not have the signature Z06 rear disc cooling ducts mounted just ahead of the rear wheels. that is a FRC car with the Z06 wheels and the Z06's mesh grilles mounted in the fascia. it is also missing the Z06 badges that are on the sides of the front fenders behind the front wheels .

Good call, I glanced at the front grille inserts and wheels.

You get the picture about the roofline though

i am still almost positive that first pic i posted WAS a hatchback. I have a 1/25 diecast of a 97 hatchback and turned it the same angle as the photo and you could NOT see the rear glass of the hatch.

Yep, I do see how that angle can hide the hatch panel.

Any update on the car

I hope you and your Dad enjoy his new "toy" and get alot of enjoyment out of it.

This is my brothers Corvette. I keep telling him I'll swap cars as he hardly drives it.
