Where the Cat bolts up to the manifold, does that take the replacement GM gasket, that I can pick up at my local Chevy dealer? The reason I am asking is cause I bought a set of gaskets and they seem to be the right size, only thing is, they don't seat in the recess in the cats like I think they should. Maybe they aren't supposed to? Also, one side of the gasket is sealed and the other side has like a braided wire showing, which side goes towards the cats and which side goes towards the manifold?
Thanks,
G

is this how it should fit?

Braided wire side should seat into the stock exhaust manifold.
Be sure the original is not still in place. Had to pry mine out with a flat blade screwdriver.

And it never hurts to use a little high temp RTV sealer!

BTW mett, would you mind posting up a pic of your Solo cat so I can see it lengthwise?
I'm thinking about adapting a set to my JBA shorts and can't tell from previous pics if it can be done.

Please be sure to show the top portion where the O2 sensor will be.
Thanks in advance!!

Thanks for the pictures! Adapting it should not be an issue for a qualified exhaust shop

So those who have gotten these, what are your thoughts? Anyone here who doesn't have headers who also might have Flowmasters AT? I've been thinking headers for a while but someone suggested just going HFC and I want something that will direct bolt to my stock exhaust from the motor.

Is the price the same and what would a typical exhaust shop charge for this install?
Thanks and if anyone has some vids or sound bites, it be nice, especially if a Flow AT is in the mix.

I don't have headers...only the Solo CAT Back.

Install from my local mechanics shop (SAE Certified and all that) was $72.

Here's a video I made with cold start up to regular idle (no revs).

.

Hope the link works properly.

Solo's would be an excellent choice to improve flow and sound on your exhaust without the cost/installation of headers. They help produce a much deeper sound over stock.

I adapted mine to JBA shorts but its tough- the Solo's will match up much better to your stock exhaust manifols and are an easy bolt-on install that should not require much install cost.

Pics show stock catalyst element vs Solo:

Thanks for the info Ventmaster! Now to find some Hi-Flo Cats at a great price. I've done so many mods its not even funny. No offense to anyone who's posted sound clips thus far but I've yet to find one that sounds as good as my current set up and I only have the Flowmaster AT and it sounds damn good with the Vararam! Still, I want just a little louder, just a little and not really wanting to go with headers. My GF wants to know why I want it louder when its pretty loud inside the house upon start up and it does get peoples attn! LOL

The current price for the HF cats is $698 shipped per pair...they will come with everything needed for installation. Give me a call at 516-655-9002 to place your order. We can ship out same day or next, depending on what time you call in your order. Thanks for the support and excellent pictures!

Yes, they will bolt up to the stock exhaust, our exhaust, or any other exhaust that bolts on to the stock converter.

For those that have these cats, could you feel the performance gain? Was there a dramatic change in the exhaust note?

As many of our customers have written, the gains are there and can be felt!!! The exhaust note will also deepen, in a good way, from adding these cats. They are win-win. If you look a few posts above, there are pictures of our cat vs. the OEM cat, and you can see the major difference in flow! Thanks

Steve

If your OEM cats bolt right up to the shorty headers, then so will ours
