Is this normal?

I personally love the sound and the exhaust as a whole is extremely well made. Couldnt be happier with my purchase.

yeah its key to switch back and forth while tightening the bolts. When i watched them do it at the shop it did take a few tries to get everything aligned perfectly, but you shouldnt have clearance issues. Im sure its alot more difficult when not using a lift.

The exhaust willl also quiet a bit as it breaks in. The break in takes about 500 miles, as carbon builds up inside the pipes. Thanks and have a great day!
I'm finding just the opposite on my SS with axle-back J pipes. After 3-4,000 miles my exhaust sounds more aggressive.
Maybe it's just me.

I figured it out.

It is VERY important to shim the tips before you tighten everything down. I got the clearance I needed for the tips. The j tube is still very close to the valence on the passenger side. To be fair, I noticed the xpipe was off center very close passenger side. Guess this means my cat pipes are out of wack. I tried adjusting by pushing the pipes in further but they were all the way against the cat pipes.

Odd thing - inside the j tube was still wool very small particles - but a fair amount coated the inside of the pipe. Guess this is normal "extra" still wool blown out of the xpipe.

That's correct....the extra wool from break in can get in the J pipes...totally normal and does no harm. If you loosen all of the clamps again and center everything before tightening, it should line up just fine. Shimming the tips is a fantastic idea.

It should take any good exhaust shop no more than an hour to install from start to finish.

I agree with the 60 minute estimate - a shop with a lift, easy job.

Ps, the best I can describe the sound (which is awesome by the way), think of a v8 pickup truck with the mufflers removed, a 20XX dodge ram is a good example. You know that deep idle and low tones it makes when it city driving. That's what our v6 sounds like.

When you are maxing out the rpm, above 2,000 rpm it sounds way different, in a good way. I'm not sure how to compare that sound.

cost me 130 for install, took about an hour.

I agree with formare about his description of how it sounds. It is truly amazing and must be heard in person to appreciate.

There is no Video that can make up with the real sound of this kit. Just is unbeleivable.

Driving home tonight, I gave it some gas as I passed a Mustang. He nearly broke his neck tuning round to see what was passing him.

2 months with the system I am more than satisfied!

Just purchased and had the XLLT installed by someone. Is it possible to install the J pipes at two different lengths or is the initial install a default fit? If I wanted to change the length to get a different exhaust note, how is this done? What happens to the exhaust note as you adjust the J Pipe?

The J pipes are to eliminate drone, not change the exhaust note. They can not be different lengths or the sound will be really bad...it makes a huge difference. We preset them for you, and will only need adjusting if after the 1000 mile break-in period, you add another mod and it causes unnecessary noise. Until then, don't adjust it unless you just want to play with it, but make sure to mark the stock position that we set it at.

So the J pipes are fixed in position at the factory correct? If that is so how do I adjust them? I am at a disadvantage because I did not install it. Need to understand how it works.

Thanks

We preset them at a certain length using the upper band clamp (closest to cap on J). The adjust, loosen that upper clamp and slide it in or out like a trombone, and then re-tighten clamp. The J pipes must be the same on both sides.
