I am really hoping we see some 3.73 gears like are on the manual transmission CTS-V and that those gears become an option on the Camaro SS.

Hmmm.......why not an option for 4.11s with some traction control? Who's really going to go 170 MPH on the road anyway? We might as well get to 65 or 70 as fast as possible rather than stating that "IF" we wanted to, we could go 170 MPH. It would be a cool option to have.

Yeah that is going to be the big question. If it is a 50K car, I would of had two 1/2 years of my car paid for and I good do alot of upgrades for less than trading in and paying the extra. Probably be quicker than a Z28 when done also.

thats not the point. you can take a cobalt and make it faster if you want. The point is that it is a z/28.

not to worry...a Z28 w/ 3.73's or even 4.10's will have PLENTY of top end.

3.73's yes, 4.10's. . .not enough.

definately not 3.23's I want to get to top end some time today. . .lol. but still I want to eventually get a Z28 over there and topped out above 190.

5.30s

I'm hoping for 3.73s, at least. I really don't see GM going higher than that, if even that high :( The higher, numerically, the less strength, so I think that's a fair ratio, IMVHO.

I think traction would be more of an issue. 3.73's is probably a nice ratio. The Trailblazer SS came with 4.10's and doesnt have any strength issues.

Didn't those come with the full-sized 8.5" rear end? Also - just look at some of the gear issues some in the Community have experienced...

So? plenty of people have them with no issues. To say 4.10's should never be used in any cars because a hand full of Richmonds failed in Camaro's wouldn't really be fair.

Which? 4.10s in SS or 8.5s in TBSSs? Either way - I believe there's enough concern with possible problems with 4.10s now, and it's a fact the teeth are thinner and therefore have less strength. Given CTS-V already posses appalling MPG. If you think GM is going to ignore that, I think that's silly.

ALSO - it looks like the TBSS rear axle is a 9.5" 3/4-ton TRUCK axle. I believe the ring gear size for Camaro is somewhere around 8.75", at best. NO - that's a really good comparison

Well, you didn't specify just CAMARO 4.10's are week. And yes, there are PLENTY of camaro's with 4.10's that are fine. Assuming GM doesn't put 4.10's in the Z28 (which I agree...they WONT), it's NOT going to be because of strength issues, but because the car isn't going to hook up which is a big issue.

Is this not a Camaro forum? What else would I be talking about?

My reasoning, regarding strength, is because I really doubt they will engineer a new third member big enough to where the size and strength of the teeth will be substantial enough to be benefitial. Bigger and heavier parts (which I'm sure you already know) take more power and numerically higher gears take more power still. I just don't think it's worth it.

I do totally agree that hooking up is going to be a big issue, LOL. I'm already not feeling the Goodyears and I don't know the PS2s are going to far that much better off the line. Who knows?...
