19? What am I doing wrong? maybe I drive strangely..

My 4th gen got about 20 with me putting my foot into it.

I always run premium. The L99 has a 10.4 compression, seems like a good idea to me.

Your 4th gen also didn't weight 10 tons.

When I drive around town I'm sure I get lower than that. More than half my miles are interstate, 230 miles drive from school to home, so those miles shoot my mileage up.

Also you don't have many miles yet do you? You should get better mileage after break in period.

under 1000 still, but close.

I roll through 1st and 2nd most of the time, because even if you pull 3k rpm in those 2 gears a stock toyota camry will still edge you out in traffic, its just wasting gas.

I usually get on it in 3rd.

I find that torque management has a lot to do with it too. My truck had issues like this when I first got it, it was getting barely 14mpg.

I had a tune put on that deleted torque management, now it gets 16 city, and with DOD I can get 19 city, but other drivers flip me off tailgate me etc. when I do that.

I think you're right, once it gets broken in better I'll see an increase in performance and mileage, and when I finally get around to tuning it it will probably go up again there, as it'll cooperate with my driving style better, rather than fight me like GM's nanny programs are so famous for doing.

that's one thing I really liked about my 4th gen, no traction control, no nanny torque management, no nothing. Just raw power.

That's how you learn to be a better driver.. if nannies take over and prevent you from making a mistake you can't learn.

I don't even look at what i get anymore. I just go to a gas station when it gets low. I have been burning rubber today and ive used about a quarter of a tank in about 30-45 miles.

I get 4-10 MPG. When I fill up it tells me 150-160 miles till empty

Got about 87 miles out of a whole tank one night.

I hear you, at lights when I'm trying to be efficient people try to take off like they're faster or something. I guess they don't realize I could care less, I'm just saving my gas.

I've heard from others that after a tune their MPG and performance both went up. And assuming you don't go all out of something, I figure if something breaks even after a tune, it'd take a hardy dealer to hold it against you and not replace a part.

Unless of course it was something directly caused by the tune.

That'll be a big step for me, going from all the factory nannies to bare bones when I finish my '68 mustang. I feel like I need an in between car to keep me outta trouble!

I'll probably just drive the camaro with TC/ST off occasionally, and be aware of my surroundings. That'll get me used to it I guess.
But I won't be doing that often. It's still a lot of car for me!

Callaway is just about to release their "hypervolt". That will definitely get better gas mileage.

VolteMort. The 10,000 volt Volt It may come as a shock, but Callaway Cars engineers and specifically Reeves Callaway have been driving a powerfully engineered Chevy Volt around their Southern California operations lately. And as creativity never sleeps, the Hall of Fame Corvette icon and his specialists have applied their engenuity to Chevys electric wunderkind.

"We have addressed the performance potential of the Volt with a modification that should satisfy the most power-hungry enthusiast; the 10,000 volt HyperVolt. Upping the voltage of the Volt's operating system is a clear path to performance, so we took many lessons from the slot car field. There's nothing quite like maximum torque at zero rpm", says Callaway, grinning.

First and most difficult was increasing the capacity of electric motor both in terms of duty cycle and rpm. We can now pump as many as 10,000 volts into the driveline, but only for very short periods of time. The safe duty cycle for full voltage operation is less than 1 second, but the amount of thrust generated in that one second is staggering. The tiny car literally welds itself to the roadway so as not to become traction limited. But to get that amount of voltage into the vehicle that quickly, Callaway had to construct conductive brushes that function just like a slot car. The brush track only needed to be about 10 feet long because the acceleration in the first second is so violent that the vehicle needs only be aimed and propelled initially. From that point on, it's as if it had been shot from a canon...and it's all about inertia: The car will accelerate for approximately 30 miles from that initial boosted launch, albeit in a basically straight line.

The second major challenge was to increase the rpm potential of the motor. As the stock redline is less than 7500 rpm, we felt that something like 120,000 rpm was not unreasonable. One of the intended consequences was to raise the top speed to just under 400 mph. Unfortunately the aerodynamics of the platform were never intended for these extremes. Callaway cautions that users should consider a BRS (ballistic recovery parachute) system similar to those used in experimental aircraft.

Southern California Edison may partner with Callaway to bring this technology to So Cal Volt owners. The home charging stations that normally control the overnight recharging of the Volt, can be modified to introduce the higher voltage. A pleasant consequence is that the onboard battery pack can now be charged in less than 10 seconds, however there is a dramatic drop in current for the rest of the neighborhood. The Callaways recharge " VolteMort" their personal HyperVolt, in the early morning hours to avoid neighbor anxiety.

A 'next-gen' of the Callaway HyperVolt will have a different approach to onboard range extension: a thorium laser excited nuclear generator. 50 Megawatts is the current output, so to speak, allowing the HyperVolt to travel several light years before refueling. Retired GM Product Chief Bob Lutz has been asked to be the poster person. Callaway continues: "It's about time that we start to wipe the smirks off the faces of the sniveling Global Warming Activists! We can be proud to have invented it, here, in the USA."

TVA and NRC approvals are applied for.

C&O was awesome...Perfect weather and alot of cars. Don't know if the amount of cars was normal or what. But all the parking lots were full and alot of people had to park at in the dirt in the back.

I just did my first breakin oil change. If I would have known about some kind of meet I may have went.

So apparently GM has some kind of "dexos" nonsense now. I use castrol edge which says its dexos compatible.

Doesn't C&O usually have a lot of high dollar cars and whatnot? Or maybe I'm thinking of something else. Someone told me about a meet up here for the elite with their lambos and ferraris and whatnot.

I remember you telling me about that.

I don't drive a whole lot down here...so even though i'm getting terrible mileage a tank still lasts me 2-3 weeks.

Yeah...that's the meet. A whole lot of everything. Not just high dollar.

Be sure to go to ACE5.org. On there is a calendar with meet information. Never be in the dark again!
