I found something to do with my 98:

http://www.carkitinc.com/carkit2.php?id=12

at least it'd be cool to take to shows. Put a good gen III/T56 powerplant in it, it'd actually be fast too..

would handle like dirt tho.

I hear you. I don't trust many dealers. I think the only ones I trust in GA are Maxie Price, Jim Ellis, and recently Ginn because they've gotta a lot better lately and Adam (a member of ACE5) has moved up the ranks there, and I feel better going there knowing he works there.

I bought my car from Hardy, and I use them for parts (when I don't go to GMPD) and that's all been great.

BUT their service is open M-F 9-5 which makes it impossible to ever use for me, and when you have a day off and run the car by sometimes you wind up sitting inline just to get it inside the door to get on the list for 30-45 minutes.

the last time I tried to get service from them I sat in line for so long I eventually backed out and left.

Their waiting area is decent at least, and they have wifi.

Capital GMC's waiting area is like a slum. Rows of chairs in a tiny room, crammed impersonally close together, unbearable smell, their sales weren't too friendly either. I did wind up buying from them though. $10k off sticker with little negotiation was a good deal in my book.

I think the absolute worst is Carl Black though. I've never had service there, but their sales people are flat out predatory. Back when my friends were looking at a G8 (right after pontiac had shut down..) I took them by there (people take me with them car shopping cos I tend to have this thing where i like to stump the salesman by asking questions he can't answer..) and this sales guy walks up and asks what they're looking for. They're not really the kind to make small talk. (I am.. I could BS with a salesman all day..) So they just say we're just looking thanks."

Guy goes "ok.. well I'll just FOLLOW YOU AROUND then.. in case you have any questions."

He followed us right back to the car.

I've never tried a kit car before. I wonder how hard it is? That'd be a unique experience.. I dunno about yall, but usually my hobbies are just things for me to independently learn how to do something, to see if I can do it. I may just stick with the belair.. It could sure use that $5k in repairs.

I don't have any recent pics of the car, but this is what the undercarriage looks like:

EDIT: You can kinda see the top in this pic, it's fairly recent. The chrome needs to be re-done. it's pitted and peeling. That's my LQ4 project when I got it.

Geez, I dunno that I'd wanna visit any of those dealerships! haha

And the kit car sounds cool, but I'd see that 5k turning into 15k in no time.
$5k could go really far for the Belair. How up are you for a restoration? Even a mild restoration, like not a frame off, could do some good. Is there any body panel rust on the car?

$5k I could see you replacing the rear end, trans, and engine. Sounds like that would do you some good with the problems you mentioned earlier.

And I know it's crazy and a long shot, but imagine that LQ4 in there!!!

That's kind of the plan actually.

The LQ4 is being built at Chris's shop.
LQ4 bored .020 over, crank turned .010, TSP stage 2.5 LS6 heads milled .030, TSP 228R cam, LS6 intake, new Ls7 lifters and trays, ported TSP ls6 oil pump, new cam rod and main bearings..

Should be good for 400whp and with such a mild cam, have excellent street manners. Drop a junkyard 80e that's been cleaned up behind it in the belair.. it should GO.

There's no rust on the car, it was "restored" int he late 1980s but has deteriorated from the things he missed and from me not doing anything to it since I got it 12 years ago.

I've been crawling LS1tech's parts wanted area to clean up my garage. If I can scrape together a grand or so I may get started with some new rims and tires for it.

since the folks on here tell me a $600 tune is worth 0-5whp on the '12. I'll save my money for the turbo kit when I've got $6-7k to drop on it.

I mean gen III motor (as in LS1, lQ4/Lq9 etc.) as opposed to Gen IV like the LS3, L99, L92 etc.

Nice car tho!

Hey Gang,
I am considering upgrading injectors. I have never done any injector maintenance. Do I need any special tools? Anything I should be aware of like, oh they tend to leak and may start a fire, they tend to break off when you take them out, one of the eight is typically out of spec, the plastic connectors break when you take out the old ones, etc.

I expect to load a tune to support the new injectors, and the job to take a couple of slow hours of getting through it. All work is on top of the motor. No jacking, lifting needed. Will do this in my garage.

Am I overlooking anything important?
Cold beer and some ACE5 members to help drink it while I work?

if they're like ls1/LQ injectors they're just held in with O-rings.

The only special tool you need is a fuel line disconnector to separate the fuel rail from the fuel system.

do they catch fire? Well don't take them out hot!

Gas will go EVERYWHERE when you take them out of the rails, but if you keep the rail angled properly when separating it from the intake, youll be able to reclaim the fuel in a bucket or something.

you should be able to remove them from the rail with a screwdriver. The LQ rails on a truck intake have a "clip" that goes over the top of the injector. I would assume it works the same way in this case.

I've heard we don't need new injectors until we're flirting with the 600whp range though?

I am well below 600, somewhere in the 400s today.

My justification is the car is closing in on 8,500 miles and suspect the injectors are worn out.

Actually, they are not stock. Vortech supplied these with that shiny round thing with the big belt. I've had discussions with a reputable tuner that recommended upgrading injectors as a first step.

Of course the bigger bang for the buck option is to do a V3 upgrade kit. That's more work than I'm able to do just yet.

I have swapped my injectors. I have Injector Dynamics 850cc. They come as a matched set. They were pretty tough to get in, had to keep working the o-rings into the hole without tearing it. By the 8th one, you'll get the hang of it. I have the fuel line tool (cheap piece of plastic that you can probably get at auto zone) if you need it. Let the car sit for a couple hours at least (to let it cool down, as well as to let the pressure in the fuel system to go away). Then place some towels under the fuel line. I never had very much fuel come out, and I've had my fuel rails opened 3 times in the last 3 months. I would rate the job a 3 out of 10 on the difficulty scale (10 being most difficult).

Give me a call if you need help.

Holy crap! You ever wanna sell Fbody parts fast listen them on Craigslist!

I listed a bunch of misc. parts I thought were worthless yesterday, got people all over me about them today.

the last timer I took fuel injectors off was on a truck intake. Those fuel rails have like half a gallon of fuel in them..

A touch of vaseline on the o-rings can help significantly.

Thanks Joe. May need to take you up on that.
I expect to have formal instructions by end of the week and parts sometime next week.

That stuff sure is versatile

So what seals the fuel line to the injector? Is it a clip or just the rail that clamps down?
It will probably become obvious as they come out.

One of my earliest mechanic experiences was watching a couple of soldiers burn up a car while working on a fuel line.
I plan on doing this work in my garage and don't want to relive that day of my childhood.

disconnect the battery and don't smoke and you should be fine.

The injectors should have a clip but not a big deal if they don't....the rail is really what holds them in but I would use the clip if the LS3 has one on it stock.

Outside chance we may be ready to do some initial shake down passes. The final piece of the puzzle (Fuel system) is scheduled for delivery today so then they just need to finish all the little details and install the fuel system. I think we are going to try and back the gears down to a 3.5 from a 3.9 as well. The 3.90 gears will put us through the traps at 7500rpm...way too high.

I hope to be there though.
