My first Camaro was a hand me down from my sister. It was a 1967 Camaro. I got the car in 1977 so it was ten years old, but still my favorite car to this day. It was light blue with the white stripe across the front. It was automatic with a straight six. A hot rod it was not, but it was my last year in high school and I thought I had the best car in the parking lot. I drove it for four years while in college and ended up trading it in on a then late model MonteCarlo. Now I was moving on up. I drove almost every manufacturer of car throughout the years. Buick, Cadillac, Mercury, Toyota, Mazda, etc, but in 1998 I purchased a 1998 Z28. Fully loaded with t-tops and leather. Now I had a hot rod. Nice car, but after a few years, it started rattling in the hatch area and the tops would leak. Not the happiest of memories with this Camaro. But the fun factor with the 6 speed was for sure there. Because of some family changes we traded that car in. That was my last Camaro until of course my 2010 which hopefully will be here in May. Ordered 2SS/RS RJM with CGM hockey sticks and gray leather interior. Can't wait. I am trying to form a Camaro Club out here in Arizona, so if anybody is interested, please contact me. I may not be 'worthy'.
When I was 16 in high school a freind of mine bought a '67 with not a ding on it. Interior was unbeleiveably intact. It was owned by a BYU student who got it from her mother and said she wanted something new because it was 'unreliable'. She said she had to keep one foot on the break and one on the gas because it kept dying on her. So we took it around the corner, turned the idle up and it purred like a 327 should. Before we took it back, we turned the idle back down. Was this dirty of us? Debateable, but we had a Camaro that would turn 20 years old the next year.
I had to have my own so I shopped around and was able to find a Hunter Green '73 that needed a valve job. I bought it and fell instantly in love. Me and my freind took an Auto Body class at the local comunity callege that got us off campus for half the day our junior year. We did nothing but work on our cars and I was surprised to find my car was faster than his. I only had the car for about a year and a half until I went into the military and I left the car to my younger brother. He sold it while I was deployed in the middle east for Dessert Sheild/Storm.
I'm not a wrencher nor an expert on the Camaro but I know a kick ass car shen I see one. I packed what seems like an entire lifetime in that year and a half with my car and today it's still the only time in my life that my car was my very own. I got married at 23 and had to buy vehicles for her or us. This will be my second car. NO BRAINER.
