True vinyl playback can be difficult to set up, but once it is set up its pretty simple. I prefer Moving Coil cartridges and use a stereo
preamp (
Yamaha C-70) from the era when vinyl was king,no CD input.
There are many record labels now pressing vinyl again since there has been a resurgence in the demand for it, lot of new stuff and reissues available now.
Your right the selections are limited.
Many phono preamps are now available along with a slew of turntables, but if your interested in checking into vinyl again see this site I also have many more if you decide to get into vinyl again
