I will say that I am a purist, and despite what you see at local car shows, 67-69 SS Camaros did not have hood-to-trunk racing stripes, only the Z-28s had them (with the exception of the orange and white convertible pace car). They did have hockey stripes. I bought the new Camaro for many reasons, but one big one was the retro look. For that reason, top stripes were not a consideration for me on an SS, but I won't be hard on anyone that chose them.
Just my $0.02...

I was beginning to think I was the only stripe purist here. Some other facts:
1st gen stripes look nothing like the 5th gen stripes, especially at the start/finish of them. Hood stripe should extend all the way off the nose of the car, not turn like a Chevelle stripe. Rear part of the hood should have the closed cap, not extend to the windshield. Trunk is also wrong, it should have the closed cap before the glass, and run all the way off the backside base edge of the spoiler.
Also, Chevy did offer the 1997 30th Anniversary Camaro with roof stripes. The white w/ hugger orange cars. They were decals too. Pic here:

I still dislike seeing roof stripes on a Camaro. That is a Carroll Shelby trademark, which also explains the Viper stripe since he helped develop it. I do like roof stripes on Mustangs and Vipers though.
