You could be a fat 30 year old kid living in his Mom's basement with pictures of mustangs and challengers all over the walls and drives a 77 Ford Fiesta for all I know.

Ok. Let's bet... Put your money where your mouth is. Let's go. M5 and ZL1 in my garage. Easy to prove. I'll put a can of Red Bull on the hood or trunk of either car side by side. Or my motorcycle helmet (AGV Rossi Elements) on either car and take pictures. :confused0068:

ZL1 is white, M5 is Silverstone.
It's not like Baylor Camaro saw my ZL1 at the Mustang/Camaro show at Hooters last summer.

YUP!

Thanks for the post, brt3.

I, too, am impressed. May have to come out of retirement, and git me sum.

That's amazing. And this is considered a high speed track. If it had the same power to weight as the GTR, Ferrari, Viper, Porsche Turbo and Corvette it'd really embarrass them.

Yes, if grandma had balls she would be grand pa.

Imagine if anyone of those cars had the trofeo R tires to their specified widths (think trofeo R 345s on the viper), their times would also be super low.

I think the z28 accomplished one HELL of a time, but the repaving & widening on some parts of the track probably get it an advantage.

For reference 2012 Lightning lap ZR1 2:50.7 (Running Michelin Pilot Sport Cups).

That, folks, is very impressive...at ANY price!

[Number 4, at 4+ TIMES the price, had not-yet-ready-for-primetime tires, and beat the ZEE by a 1/10, or...]

^^^ This just says it all. :confused0068:

Damn, the Z/28 kicks some serious butt!!! Awesome. I'm actually not surprised, the Camaro defies physics. Yes it's big and heavy, yet somehow tracks with the best of them. It's a beast in wolf's clothing, LOL.

Blown away by that time. :happy0180:

Congrats! :clap2: what an original retort.

No one has bothered to mention, the Z/28 kicked ass in pure stone-age, 100% analog fashion.
  • No forced induction
  • No AWD
  • No torque vectoring
  • No DCT/PDK automatic gearbox
  • No electronic shocks
The fact is the car performs due to excellence in engineering. GM and Chevy should be nothing but damn proud.

The other elephant in the room is...where was the 991 GT3 Porsche? My bet, they didn't have one to supply at the time because they were all having their engines replaced.

And the "buy a Corvette for that money you idiot!" crowd have found themselves mute. Maybe because the Corvette in the test blew it's engine. Low blow, ok, but it did and the Z/28 did not.

I remain of the opinion the Z/28 is the performance car bargain of the decade and can't wait to drive mine again tomorrow.

EmeryZ28 09-05-2014 07:12 PM

man this is extremely impressive. I would guess that next years lightning lap, the Z06 will be the winner, or atleast right behind the Porsche? I would guess it would atleast post a 2:45?

Great points, all. Like all things, there will be better cars made. For me, though, the Z/28 is nearly perfect. I hope to keep mine a good LONG time, drive the hell out of it, and make a few careful mods over time...

That's your opinion. IMO the new Z06 is.

I think the Z/28 is a sweet, sweet ride but I still think its 15K too expensive.

How do you figure?

The Z/28 is probably the last pure track car GM will build. The Z06 has moved away from being a pure track car to chase sales.

Your opinion, not mine.
