OK, going to install my footwell lights this weekend and wanted to ask a daft question...
I'm going to t-tap onto the dome light wire so should I... a) disconnect the battery and go through the PITA of resetting stuff b) pull a corresponding fuse to kill the dome light circuit or c) is the dome light circuit cold when the door close switch is closed? |
Just turn it off with the switch by the dome light and make sure that you use a fuse.

And yep, have an inline fuse all ready to go :D |
Job done!!
My, upside down in the footwell is a comfortable place to be! :twitch: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/pictur...ctureid=127861 |
Looks great!

Hi guys! There are 31 pages here so I might ask the same question again:
Where do I connect on a 2014 ZL1 to get the LED strips connected to the ABL circuit? I want to be able to dim the lights together with the Ambient Lightning. Thanks! |
Easiest to connect to the yellow wire in the four-pack harness. That is the dash-lighting circuit.
|
just wanted to let you know this thread is still going strong! at this point I've read just about every post and done my led footlights 2 different ways...hooked into the headlight switch (didn't like on at night) and redid last night to tap into the dome light using the grey wire behind the passenger side kick panel...super easy! ok, well maybe not super easy to contort your body 50 different ways...believe it or not, the hardest part to me is zip tying the dern things because I can't fit both arms in there under the dash!
|
I picked a good one to start! :D

SJM - Is your footwell lighting kit a plug in play if I just want to hook it to the dome light?
|
Unfortunately not. There is one wire that needs to be tapped for that function.
On the up-side, the t-taps that we provide are pretty cool in that they have a spike, or, pin that penetrates the wire insulation. We feel that they are much nicer, and, more reversible than standard t-taps. |
Sounds easy enough. I want to avoid splicing the wires. A few more questions. Do I have to remove the center console to access the wiring? How close is the cyan to factory aqua? Finally, any Black Friday specials going on? :)
|
Cyan is pretty close. It's a bit more blue than factory, but, since it's not really right next to other lighting, it still looks good.
One option to get away from that is going white, or, red. They both work well. Another is going RGB and setting it to what you think matches best. ;) |
That's fine as long as it's a lighter blue and not a royal blue. Thanks for the help. :)
