2011/2012 Camaro Z28 LSA Engine and Hood Design Revealed!
8 Attachment(s)
As reported on Homepage.
We bring you visual proof of the Camaro Z28 prototype testing with the supercharged LSA motor (same as that used in the CTS-V). Even if one thinks it's suspicious that a test prototype's engine would have any sort of engine cover bearing the name of the engine, the motor underneath does appear to be that LSA upon visual inspection. For those not familiar with the LSA engine, it's a 6.2L supercharged engine SAE certified at 556hp @ 6100rpm and 551 lb-ft torque @ 3800rpm :confused0068: That does not mean that the Camaro will come with the same power though. We could possibly see less or even MORE power. Also seen clearly for the first time is the design of the Camaro Z28 prototype hood. There looks to be a two-row heat extractor vents design (we've reposted an older photo from the top-down angle for an additional view). Keep in mind however, there's no guarantees that this is the final hood design of the Camaro Z28. And finally, a Z28 prototype has been spotted in what appears to be aqua blue metallic (or a similar blue color). Previous prototypes have all been red. The wheels are 20" SP550 anodized black - 20x10 front and 20x11 rears. Wrapped in Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar G:2 tires. Finally we get something revealed. Too late for me, but it's nice that the Z is on it's way!
|
nice to see a medium blue back.
cool engine, the hood looks ok but there are better ones out there I think. |
that hood is going to be a nice addition.
im pretty excited for this. |
oh and those fog lights look like they are a little high.
|
wow exciting! I hope they keep testing, until its better than the gt500 in every aspect.
|
Me likey mucho!
|
Carroll Shelby just sharted himself
|
I think it should be noted that this paticular version had the LSA out of the CTS-V. It is a posibility that the others did not. Where these are test mules, they could be using several different configurations to see which one they like best. I'll keep my SS and add a SC and keep up. :D Love the front facia though. I can see that making its way onto my car.

.
I feel all tingley. I get like that when I'm teased unmercifully. I REALLY like the Leno hood, but I won't poop upon this without a proper viewing. . |
I like the 2" reciever hitch! Haha jk

Very nice! Looks like the Supercharged LSA is definitely in and not the LS7 that some are hoping for. I can't wait to see the finished product. The blue one almost looks like it has a different hood. It might be the angle, but it looks like it has an intake/ raised area near the front of the hood and the other ones are a little farther back on the hood.

Must be a hard job test driving a new camaro

so has the red one been around for quite some time?? It has chicklets on the fender
|
My wish was for the ZR1 to have gotten an engine upgrade and the Z28 to have gotten the LS9. It would have really given the shelby a push. It would have needed to be reengineered. But oh well it will still kick some puppy chow tail anyway
|
In regard to the hood design and more specifically the openings, I was told at the last SEMA event by a chevrolet official, that the Jay Leno car had similar openings which helped with downforce on the front end. Perhaps just maybe, these openings have that similar function???

Excellent!!!
|
What are the chances that is not really an LSA?
|
This is exactly what my inside friend described to be months back. If his HP figures are correct... look out GT500.
|
Looks like they are recording a bunch of various temps in the engine bay...wonder if they are worried about colling in the camaro engine compartment as opposed to the vette's. Or they just record a standard group of temp channels for all testing.

Also the tires they're running around on appear to Pirelli R-comps. Note the hood has hood pins too. May be a hood option where as the existing hood would still come on the a 'base' Z? I have been heir lurk around here for some time now, and if the Z is a drivers version of the SS with an LSA under the hood it has an honest chance to catch back up to it's less portly adversary pre Alpha Camaro. I like where this is going. I just hope they make it so the hardcore want the Z's and the people who want the comfy, pretty darn well performing car stick to the SS. If that is case, the sky is the limit with the Z |

Looks Sweet!

Thanks for the pics of the engine:happyanim: I realize they are still testing and I hope they take thier time to work out all the kinks.
I speculate that the different versions are testing different components. I hope that it is a good cooling system (engine/brakes/etc.) for us deep south owners. |
sexy sexy now lol

GM has to juggle with the Z though and that's one thing they are kind of in a pickle with.
They cannot make it outperform a Z06(which I don't think they will even come remotely close) But it needs to be a legit player STOCK with the GT500(make it a drivers race pretty much) and make mincemeat of the 2011 GT. They need to make it hardcore enough so the hardcore guys will go for it, and make it honestly better than a Corvette Coupe(at least in my opinion) but less than the Grand Sport. There's a lot of marketing that has to go behind this :lol:because if they eff it up they will kill sales of another car. |

also pay attention to the hood "scoops" cause from what I see they look to be rear facing. More of a heat extractor hood than a hood scoop for fresh air.. |
hhhmmmm....a reverse induction hood. i like that.
|
The Z28 has been hiding in plain sight for the longest time.
same shot same angle pretty much all the same cues are there... http://images.thecarconnection.com/l...00178099_l.jpg http://www.camaro5.com/forums/attach...6&d=1285658464 now question is..are those 4 hood vents just to throw us off so we dont see the scoop? Maybe cut there so that it will still work since the cover might be directing airflow over the scoop and this is the best area to pick up air untill the black cover is taken off.:iono: To me the Z28 and Bumblebee match up pretty well..with all things considered for movie vs. production car. Thay all match up. |
It does look like they are reverse scoops but yo ucan see the front facing scoop also on the hood matches up with BB's hood very well.
|
I would do that Blue one...sweet!
|
Looks nice...but I'll keep my SS.
|
The reason Bumble Bee looks like the Z28 is because it was the concept proposed for the Z28 design. Had the GM bail-out stuff not occurred, they had originally hoped to release the Z28 around the same time that Transformers 2 came out. Movie was to have been a preview of the Z28 model. Bumble Bee 2 nose shown is about 95% accurate.
|
And......
I want one. :D |
