Camaro5 FEST III Autocross Sponsored by Pedders USA

A very special thanks to Pete from Pedders USA for coordinating and providing the awards for C5F III AutoX

http://www.proautomods.com/uploads/pedders.gif

There are two primary objectives for the Autocross.

#1 SAFETY
#2 FUN

You will have more fun running the autocross than anything else you can do in your Camaro... I think I'll stop there. The first segment of this video is a great preview to the course you will be running at INDY.

Here are a few things you may not think are important for an autocross, but...

Sun Screen
Chairs
Hydration -- Lots of WATER
Friends
Snacks
Water
Water
Water

Classes

Stock -- That means Stock. No CAI, wheel, tire, engine, brake, suspension, exhaust modifications or tunes.

Modified -- Vehicles with tunes, moderate engine mods, suspension upgrades...

ZL1 -- STOCK ZL1

Super Modified -- You are automatically in this class with built motors, supercharger and or tires with a treadwear rating of 200 or less.

Exhibition -- Any and all vehicles owned by a company or driven by a 'shoe'

Equipment and Tech
  1. HELMET CHANGES!!

    1. There will be 5 loaner helmets on site at the Autocross if you don't have one. If folks have more than one and want to loan that would help out too, but 5 will be on hand.

    2. Snell M rated helmets (2010) will be allowed on the Autocross.

    CHANGE TO HELMETS!!
Helmets are Required, if you don't have one try to borrow one. Snell SA2010 and M2010 rated helmets (closed and open face) are acceptable. Bring your own helmet or make arrangements to share one. There will be 5 loaners. If you have spare helmets and are willing to share please bring it. If you have access to a batch of SCCA rental helmets please let us know!
    http://racingready.com/wp-content/up...on-sticker.jpg
    http://www.smf.org/images/decals/m2010decal.jpg
  2. Your Camaro must be empty. If it isn't bolted down it shouldn't be in the car.
  3. No drivers side floor mats are allowed.
  4. No drips or leaks are acceptable.
  5. Your battery and every thing under the hood and in the trunk must be bolted down securely.
  6. Your tires will have to pass the Lincoln test, unless they are slicks.

Autocross Staffing

We have NO SCCA support for the event. To make the event run smoothly we need Camaro5 member help.

  • Drivers MUST work the corners. If you do not support the event as a corner worker, you will NOT drive in the event.
  • Pedders and a few of our Dealers will staff the Autocross, but we cannot do it alone.

We will post more details as they become available. Based on the early registrations for the FEST in general we expect the autocross to be a very busy section of track. Autocross is hands down thee most fun you can have with your clothes on :chevy:

I will play and....work the corners. I wouldn't mind being dedicated, probably as a tech inspector. But I want to do drag some time during the day as well. Would that be possible?

I don't know if you saw the rest of my inquiry, I wouldn't mind being a dedicated tech inspector. But does that mean you can't leave the auto cross event to drag race your car at all that day?

We want the same dedicated people both days, but that does not mean you can't sneak out for drag runs. What is means is you have to arrange you time so the event is covered. That is why we are asking for two in each category. I am also going to assume, until the Camaro5 FEST Staff tell us differently, we should be able to get some priority for our staffers over at the drags as in move to the front of the line at thee drags and get back to work at the autocross :D

Oooooo.......well then sign me up for the tech inspecting fella! Thanks!

IROCanSS 01-30-2012 01:29 PM

I am interested in running a few laps but I'm not wanting to spend my whole day there as I will only be there one day (Saturday). I wouldn't be opposed to help out some but I'm not going to camp at the autocross as a corner worker all day.

I've worked track days before. They are long and tiring and that's not how I'm looking to spend my only day there.

Should I not bother signing up?

Buffnshine 01-30-2012 01:43 PM

So Cal Camaro5 Race Team #27 will be there, looking forward to it Pete

Same question here as well.

I'm sure someone is trying to cover all bases but just in case, has anyone hit up a local autocross club? Wondering if they would consider working it and maybe provide some instruction for a slight fee charged to participants for their club? I really wish I'd tried it at C51. I'm probably going to have my wife and kids along so I could work a bit but no way am I getting away with doing it all day.

The days are long and hard and that is why we are offering swag and discounts ;) We are looking for 6 people to work all day and a 7th to start working with us now.

If you are a driver at the event, you'll be expected to do corner work for each sessions you run. Here is how that will work.

We have three classes running every session: Stock, Modified and Super Modified. While the Stock class is on course, the Modified and Super Modified drivers are either watching or working the corners. When the Modified class runs, stock and super modified are watching or working the corners and so on.

IROCanSS 01-30-2012 02:37 PM

Ok so it's a 2/3 of the day thing... Just like a local event (they run 3 heats... work, run, watch)

Thanks for the info... It really helps!

That is the first thing we did. They declined. Last year we had similar issues, but at the last minute. We thought we were all in agreement that the local SCCA club would staff the event. The night before they said here is the timing equipment see ya. We were able to get them to keep at least one person on the timing equipment for the two days we ran, but that left us in a very bad position. My Dealers and their wives spent 2 /1/2 days baking in the sun, but we made it work.

This year the SCCA declined in December so we have time to make our own plans for operation and staffing. With six dedicated Camaro5 Member / Managers and the driver's working the corners we'll be able to cover the event without over working anyone.

As a driver, one session of track time = one session of corner work time.

Oops posted to soon. One session I may be able to get by with. :)

While you are running your session, I'll take you wife and kids through the course in my rental Impala.

Is the 35% off the heavily discounted prices at C5Fest3, or the regular price? :iono:

I know I want some pedders suspension. :headbang:

dragom 01-30-2012 04:40 PM

I don't plan to be a driver in any of the events just a spectator but I would be willing to lend a hand if need be. Not really worried about the hours just would love to be around it all. If you need a person to do Time Keepers / Registration I could do that. Not sure about what the tech would involve but could help if need be.

We view the C5FEST as a social event with some autosports attached to it. It is a unique event that we really enjoy. Our 'vendor' tent is the AC course and we really don't run a formal sale or sell at C5FEST. Maybe that is the wrong approach, but it is our approach so don't look for a Pedders C5FEST sale. The 35% off for the seven dedicated hard working people isn't a sale as much as it is a reward or thank you.

Ok guys... I'm gonna help make it clear how badly we need members to help us pull this off.

This is the first time we'll be doing this without any SCCA support... Thank God for Pete and his dealers who will be the core folks pulling this off.

So here is what I'm willing to offer.

We will give anyone that ends up on Pete's list as workers will get free entry into the fest for the entire weekend.

Pete you manage the list and what is an acceptable level of effort. It's up to you who makes the list.

In addition whomever steps up to be Pete's administrative "go to" person, will get some compensation from Camaro5 as well. I'm working on that now. I will post as soon as I know what it will be.... ;)

we have to be careful about the word "instructors". Driving Instructors are specially licensed and we won't have any on hand that I know of...

But we will have plenty of experienced drives that will be able to take you for a few laps or to ride along with you if you'd like.

We may need to set up a special time for these runs if there is enough interest in ride alongs.

Im very interested in trying ,and wouldnt mind helping out for a session

Mr Twisty 01-30-2012 08:35 PM

Pete, I would like to make a plea to the members who want to run the auto-X

This is run by a dude named PETE.. it's not a large professional setup, it's a bunch of Camaro dudes out to have a good time, Pete enjoys it, but he can't do it by himself. It takes a LOT of folks to make it work... the more folks, the easier it is on everyone.

If you want to run, you HAVE to help, at least with cones, or wherever Pete may need you at the time.

Make plans to have a small get together with your buddies at a corner or three, bring your lawn chairs and drinks (no liquor) and help with cones for a couple hours, you'll have the best seat in the house... also....many hands make for light work.

If you say you'll help, HELP! There were only three corner workers for the first morning last year, and it was a HUGE layout... It made for slow running, only one car on the track at a time, and delays resetting cones.

Schedule your time at the fest, if you want to run autoX in the am of the first day, plan on using the morning of the first day to help at the track.
