Back to the past...
Well, I'm way behind on starting one of these threads...my 11/12 group's has basically been my surrogate build thread :D i didn't think i'd continue modding after my initial stuff was done, but the ideas keep coming and i keep wanting to do more :help:

Beginning of the story...ordered the baby 9/11/12, not realizing they wouldn't even start producing them for another month. eventually got my TPW of 11/12, but it would still be a LONG wait for delivery to Hawaii. eventually got the call and took delivery on 12/28/12:happyanim::happyanim::happyanim:

Only issue was that my rear passenger wheel was damaged during shipping, so the dealership filed the claim for me, but i was still more than happy to take her home.

at the lot - so fresh!

I'll work on fixing the pics issue after work tonight. Was trying to insert them from a Dropbox acct for the first time. Just been busy dealing my snapped strut this weekend :(

trying to look at it positively, but man...the baby is hurt! lol...ok, can anyone help with inserting images from dropbox? i only just started using it this weekend, and would like to be able to link my photos from there so i don't have to put everything as an attachment at the bottom of my posts...normally i'd try harder to figure this out myself, but things have been busy lately:facepalm:

ok, since i'm not out cruising around:mad0259: i'm going to work some more on this build thread...still not sure what i'm doing wrong with the dropbox links, so if someone can give me some pointers, that'd be great.
here's a look at the short-lived stock engine bay :D

tramtwo 02-23-2013 02:30 AM

don't think you can hotlink the free version of drop box I used photobucket...

what has the dealer told you about the repairs

Oh...hmm. I know I had a photobucket acct at some time. Might need to go back re-create it.

Got a call today, they said they don't know if it will be warrantied, but there's about $500 worth of parts needed. If they come back with saying its not warrantied I'm gonna call GM directly and say wtf...

pierre777 02-23-2013 04:39 AM

looks great so far ,keepem cominn.

OzzySS 02-24-2013 09:10 PM

ok, glad i figured out what i was doing wrong with the photos :D

so, first mod on the list was the Rx catch can, done at 30 miles. my car arrived with 22 on the odo, a little more than avg for these, but i imagine it was transferred a few times, and from what i understand all cars out here in HI get driven to the dealership from the shipping companies. anyway, got that can on there the first weekend, gave her a bath and a clay session, and decided to try some Adams VRT on the hood...
http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psddec2076.jpg
i really wasn't thrilled with the results of the VRT treatment...way too shiny for my liking.

next mods - it was time to drop the bumpers :D
tram and the other 11/12 guys know already, but while i was waiting for my car i did a lot of black friday/cyber monday shopping for mods, and received all of them well before the car lol...
so, i was lucky in that i could knock at a couple mods at a time when i had the bumpers down. the bumper covers are extremely easy to get off and only require a T15 and 7mm socket iirc...http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psa6247d8f.jpg
first up was my AAC LED smoked reverse lights and Oracle ghosted concept LED sidemarkers...
http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...ps1b912523.jpg
http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psa113c598.jpg
http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...ps112ed0a2.jpg
http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psd645c295.jpg

i love these lights...the reverse lights are amazing in the camera at night now, and the sidemarkers quickly got me a ton of compliments, especially from the import guys who can't find anything like these for their VWs lol :D
i remember the instructions for the sidemarkers said you could replace the lights without taking the bumper off, and i made an attempt at that. but they must figure people have sticks for arms or something, because it just didn't feel like that was gonna happen for me without possibly damaging the car, especially up front.
i also removed my taillight bezels for painting while the bumper was down...i tried to remove them before, but the fit around the bottom was too snug. so again, not wanting to damage/scratch the car, i waited since i knew the bumper was coming off at some point, and had a much easier time.
here are my bezels after wetsanding, and 3 coats of krylon satin black...much better IMO :D

menendez1293 02-24-2013 09:32 PM

Looking great and I like what you have done. I just love the 1LE

OzzySS 02-24-2013 09:33 PM

and here's the front dropped...
http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...ps51d7946a.jpg
it's possible to drop it without taking the wheels off, but looking back at it, i should've just taken those off too. that top bolt for the bumper is SO much harder to work off with the wheel in the way. but not impossible.
i thought i was going to do my headlight retrofit at this time too, but chickened out lol. also partly because of time commitments and just wanting to drive the car more :D

thanks!
i love this car, i'm just trying to work backwards through everything i've done already lol...i guess i've actually done quite a bit in the 2 months or so i've had it. my friends joke that i spend more time working on it than i do driving it:thumbdown:

OzzySS 02-24-2013 09:48 PM

next up was my CAI...i went with the roto-fab, mostly because they're one of the big reputable brands i read about here, and i could color-match the box. also, there was a great price on it when i bought, saved around $50 from the other brands.

nice and clean after about 400 miles :)
http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...ps46ae265b.jpg

for the most part, the instructions were good, and easy enough to follow. the stock intake was easy to remove in just a few minutes.
for lack of any instruction regarding the ground post, i just left it where it was...i did have to cut a plastic retainer or two...
http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psc294005c.jpg
...and then just work the cable around the outside of the new box...it was a tight stretch, but it worked. i might relocate it sometime in the future, but for now i'm not worried about it...
http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...ps9a7feb16.jpg
http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psb7b7d221.jpg
the separator that comes with the 1LE left me with another deviation from the instructions...lol...so, i just connected it up as best i could and laughed to myself...
http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...ps88d290fb.jpg
it's a little wobbly, but it works and i doubt it'll disconnect...

it's true, they don't...i look at modding as another fun hobby where i get to see results, and exercise some creativity. although my mom even asked me why i bought a new car if i was just going to build one anyway :sm0:

thanks! there's still some more to come...just got to upload more pics to the photobucket and work out what order i've done things :)

OzzySS 02-25-2013 11:47 PM

next up on the mod list...i was trying to blackout the mailslot and front fascia areas...at first i tried plasti-dip. maybe my masking job was bad, but after three tries i still wasn't satisfied with how the mail slot was turning out. never even made an attempt on the upper grille area with it. guess i'm plasti-retarded :P
so i bought some vinyls off ebay...managed to find a seller that had a mailslot and fascia package that even threw in bowtie blackouts as a bonus:w00t:

turns out, i'm way better at slapping vinyls on than i was at shooting plasti-dip lol. got the whole set on in under an hour, i think.
oh, and i also put some fading effect gill stripes on, at some point...

with others...

out at a BBQ on north shore with Edition 808, primarily a German import club...but the camaro still got a lot of respect. a LOT of jokes were made about how much i stood out tho :sm0:
http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...ps3156a092.jpg
and it really only got worse...
http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...ps82998382.jpg
still...they've invited me to their get togethers several times since, as the american muscle representative:laugh:

caught some joker outside the bar one night :sm0:
http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psca54fb9d.jpg

also, finally met up with newb at this bar on another weekend...as far as i know, we're still the only two 1LE's on the island:respekt:
his pics turned out better than mine...he's got an AGM with the RS

latest pics (2/15/13)

finally removed the rear SS badge...the white-on-yellow really bugged me.
also removed the camaro fender badges, and installed my 1LE badges from Roger at emblempros on the hood. i know some people get real meticulous about measuring everything out, but i just eyeballed one side and laid tape across the hood in a box pattern to make the other side match :drinking:
http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...ps31b85ae1.jpg
http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...ps6ea5ec74.jpg
http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...ps7dcc037c.jpg

also swapped out my dome light and trunk light with some bonus red LEDs that i got from ordering something...
http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...ps1916c7f8.jpg
now i'm planning on doing the door abl panels in red (just received those LEDs from Ofer tonight, actually:D), and i've got red footwell strips as a bonus from some other purchase as well. however, all my mods are on hold at the moment, since the car is still at the dealership waiting for the new strut to come in (hopefully weds/thurs)
i've got a few other things laying around waiting for install, but those are gonna stay a surprise for now:D

American Muscle representative. :) VWs are nice on the inside and fun little cars. Used to sell them right around the time of the demise of the fourth gen Camaro. Sounds like a fun group.

OzzySS 03-01-2013 01:19 AM

Yeah one of my roommates has an R32, heavily modified. They're nice, but for my money I was set on the 1LE :D edition 808 is a pretty good little group, I gotta make it out to one of the 5-0 Muscle meetups soon.
Speaking of that, hoping to get some update from the dealer tomorrow about my strut...they were expecting the parts in today, but I got busy at work and didn't have time to call before the service dept closed...

500hpbluez28 03-01-2013 09:06 AM

Car is coming together nicely...love the look.

BlwnSS 03-01-2013 09:37 AM

nice ride , i like the mods you have done , i think my favorite mod is the side markers , they are just awesome like that .

Any plans for headers or cam . Is their even any ls engine tuners out there?

OzzySS 03-02-2013 03:14 PM

Thanks guys :)
I'd like to do headers and cam, but I want to put some miles on it before I do a tune or a big cam package and throw away the warranty. Right now it's still under 800 since its my weekend cruiser and it's hard to rack up mileage out here :(
Oh, another update: called the dealer yesterday and they just got the rest of the parts in, so I should be able to get the car back Monday. Still not told if it'll be warranty since they haven't put it on the lift yet. Also more than a little aggravated that I've gotta be the one calling an asking for updates, but that's pretty common for Hawaii. :(

agreed! Nice to see he planned ahead of delivery as well :thumb:

OzzySS 03-02-2013 07:49 PM

Thanks I had boxes of mods sitting in the living room waiting for the car for about a month! Lol
Now I'm just hoping to get the car back on Monday without any issue so I can spend the week tearing it apart an putting it back together :D

OzzySS 03-09-2013 01:18 AM

Sooo, finally got the car back from the dealership yesterday afternoon. I had it towed there on the 20th, and when I called them two days later they told me they'd identified the parts needed and should have it by Wednesday or Thursday the following week. I was pretty stoked, that's pretty fast for getting parts out here from the mainland!
Now, the really frustrating thing for me was that I always was the one calling to get updates about what's going on with my car. I know I didn't buy a luxury vehicle, but I sure didn't buy a cheap one either, and would like actual service...unfortunately, this particular gripe isn't limited to this dealer, it's consistent all over Hawaii. Oh, and also that I took leave this week so i could mod out the car some more :(
Anyway, naturally I call on weds and Thursday, then Friday, and was told that they got the parts in two shipment that afternoon, should be able to start install Monday.
I call Monday and Tuesday, the parts were installed, but apparently they didn't receive some nut that goes to the top of the strut? Wtf? Think I was fed some bullshit, bc the service writer didn't really seem to know what he was referring to either, but they were going to overnight the part.
I didn't bother calling weds since there's really not overnight service to Hawaii, and they were still going to put it on the lift for photos for the warranty claim.
Finally got the call Thursday afternoon saying it was ready for pickup. Up to this point they still wouldn't say if it would be warrantied or not, but made a point to say that they warrantied it just for me (riiiight)...at this point I think they finally started worrying about the satisfaction survey...
So, after 2.5 long weeks, I took it home and gave it a good bath, and this morning finally swapped my door abls to red :)

tramtwo 03-09-2013 02:13 AM

Glad ya got it back. GM really does stand behind their products... but you got to stay on 'em. From the lessons I have learned you really should keep track of every phone call and conversation.

How was the abl color swap? Piece of cake right?

OzzySS 03-09-2013 03:40 AM

yeah, the abl swap was pretty easy...got slowed down with the weatherstripping clips. the diagram i found in a thread here looked like i should be pulling the panel up/down to get those loose, instead of straight back:doh:
went down and looked at them powered up tonight, the dome light pretty much obliterates them lol. but i'll be a lot happier with them when i'm driving at night now, the bright blue bugged me.

tramtwo 03-09-2013 03:43 AM

could change the dome to red too

From the looks of that photo that club needs a new name!

tramtwo posted this on the go

The club seems to be 60% 5th Gen Camaro. Then about 25% corvette. Mustangs make up most of the rest.

Maybe next time the weather will be better and I will bring mine out as well. I should have some mods done by next Saturday night. And hopefully my customs plates finally get here

OzzySS 03-11-2013 09:53 PM
