So how many of you went from V6 to SS

Do you really want to start this?... I sense down hill... FAST!

Saw a few threads about guys going from V6 to V8. Now that it might go downhill fast has me more interested.;) |
3 months after initial purchase of a 1LT we went back and got a 2SS
|
I went from a str8 six in my old '92 F150...does that count?
|
I just did, but both great cars in their own right

I'll say my piece... it is $7000 more for an equally equipped SS over an LT... For that $7000 you get 114 horsepower and 147 foot-lbs, Brembo brakes, better rear end gear and a tigher suspension... you be the judge why people do it. You could never boost a V6 up to those numbers including brakes, gears and suspension for $7000... NEVER. |

Had my v6 for 7 mths, had her customized and beautiful. Showed her in car shows and she won top 10 in her firsy show!! Traded her in for my 1ss/rs this past Friday. Hated losing most of my mods but the ss is awesome and worth it
|
Shouldn't go down hill. I see it as a natural progression for those who got the V6 early on like me. It suited me then and still does.
I tend to lose interest in a vehicle after 4-5 years ( i bought in may of 09) So, it doesn't surprise me at all that people are moving on and may do so myself although my dream car is a Z06 and pursuing that goal. |

I did and never looked back, an SS is much more fun!

Glad you're enjoying the SS! I got mine out today! I've been so busy I haven't had a chance... :( |
Traded my 2LT after 5 months upgraded to my 2SS
|
Went from a 2011 1LT to a 2012 2SS....both are great cars but the V8 was the answer for me.
|
I went from a 2010 2LT coupe after 8 months to a 2011 2SS convertible. I wanted a convertible and figured why not upgrade to the 2SS. I wish I could have afforded to keep the 2LT as well.
|
I went from a 4 to an 8!
It was no slouch though... 07 Pontiac Solstice GXP. 2.0 Turbo 260HP. |

went from a 2011 cyber grey 1LT that i had over a year.... to a 2012 2SS/RS
|
Had a 2LT for two years and traded for a 2SS. First car was a '68 Camaro with a 250 six banger, 3-speed on the floor. Not afraid of sixes; I loved that car.
But nothing like a V8. |

While I love my 2LT, the 312 HP just isn't enough for the weight of the car. Not to mention the V-6 engine sounds like a V-6 engine. Nothin matches the rumble of a V-8. |

Anyways i would have loved to get an SS and probably going afford the payments per month but the insurance and gas would have been way too much for me to handle. I still want more power and a better sound out my V6 but it still does seem like its no time at all and im going 50 already and i have to shift from 2nd to 6th. Im not sure how many people on these boards that own a V6 would always want to stay true. I know there are a couple die hard V6 but if i had the means i would certainly enjoy an extra 2 cylinders. |

I know a lot of folks on here think I am a V6 hater... I am not at all... I just don't understand why some of them are so diehard... but thats their perogative. |
Upgraded 11 months after getting mt 2LT.

I traded V6 for V8 too! |
I will stick with my V6. The V8 guys act like it's a money issue instead of choice but that's not the case. I have numerous reasons for getting the V6. If it was all about money I could take a Chevette, put a V8 in it with half as much money as an SS costs and embarass a lot of guys on this site.

I've always been a little surprised that Chevrolet went with the "SS" designation so soon after the end of WWII.

I personally traded the 6 for two reasons. i wanted to v8 sound and aftermarket options, and i also outgrew the power of the v6, and ultimately found myself wanting more.

I bought my 2011 2LT in March and on Sept 30th traded for the SS, and dealer switched all my mods to the new SS!
|
Count me in this group. 2010 1LT/RS for 2yr 3mo and 41k miles >>> 2011 2SS/RS SGM now.
If GM hadn't put such a crap manual transmission in the V6, I'd probably still own it. It really came down to reliability and mod/upgrade options. Tons to choose from on the SS, not so many on the V6. |
I am looking to sell mine and get an SS.
I agree with mike25 "i wanted a v8 for sound and aftermarket options, and i also outgrew the power of the v6, and ultimately found myself wanting more". |
If a Z/28 comes out to take on the BOSS, I will upgrade.
For me, coming right out of college and just starting my first full time job, the V6 made way more sense. I could have afforded the V8 looking back on it, but not knowing how my job would go, and not really knowing what I would be spending per month on other expenses, it didn't make sense to add another $150 to the monthly payment. The prospect of upgrading to a Z/28 is about the only thing that keeps me from going crazy with mods. I'd like bigger wheels, different exhaust, suspension upgrades, etc. But if a Z/28 comes out in 2 years, that will be a couple grand wasted that could go towards a Z/28 down payment. That said, I don't plan to upgrade to an SS anytime soon. Z/28 or bust for me. If I have to wait until the 6th gen, I'll wait and have the V6 fully paid off and a large down payment ready for the Z. |
loved my v6..but when i started thinking seriously @ putting a turbo in it...i knew it was time for me to upgrade...so after 10 months of ownership i did it...
|
My 2012 has enough power for me. Saying that if money wasn't a factor I would def get a 2ss..I'm pretty sure a 2ssrs etc. is more than 7,000 than my 2ltrs. Whatever it is it's money I didn't have but being in stop and go traffic everyday 323hp is goood. It's 65+ hp than my last car. I would love ss torque tho...
|
i think the v6 has enough power.
i mean i went from 120hp to 312hp so its enough for me. plus im a college student, i still cant afford an SS just yet. once i graduate i will probably get the ZL1. go big or go home. simple:happyanim: |
