Different size shafts

I was replacing my mufflers this weekend when I noticed that the drive shaft from the differential to the passenger side rear wheel is much thicker than the driver side drive shaft. I can't think of a reason why one would be thicker than the other. Both appear to be the same length. I have a 2SS A6. Is this configuration normal. :iono:

Someone in the past was changing pipes and said something about this.:iono:

This was done in part, to eliminate wheel hop.

Yes.

Edit:

As are many other performance cars from GM. CTS-V being among the most prominent.

600hp-lpe 09-06-2009 06:12 PM

are the halfshafts (right side Left side) the same length?

DarricSS 09-07-2009 03:00 AM

I wonder wich one people are breaking running 600+ HP...the skinny or the beefy one?

It helps tame the dreaded rear wheel hop under hard acceleration. Corvette ZR-1 has it also. But Cadillac was first to figure it out, I think.
