Transmission Rebuild
Just wondering if anyone has had to have their 4th Gen Automatic Transmission rebuilt? Mine is getting to the point where it needs to be done. I am wondering about cost (I realize factors are involved like what shop is doing it and a few other things) but I am just trying to get an idea since none of the shops I would like to call are open right now.

i have had to put in two transmissions-
my old pontiac only cost me $700 on a rebuild my old suburban ran $1800 for a new jasper tranny don't know if that helps but might give you an idea |
any where from $500 to $2500. Depends on how bad it is and what part of the country you are in. I use to work in a tranny shop in Calif. I've seen the exact same tranny cost one person $700 and another $1800. It just depended on how much the person looked like they could afford. The owner was a crook. If a guy drove up in a Chevy and his wife shows up in a BMW to pick him up, his cost would double. Of course if he was willing to pay cash he got a discount and got put ahead of other jobs. There are good ones and bad ones.

really depends on what kind of build you want done, i know for my built trans it cost me 1100 in parts and 200 to assemble. and that was from a very reputable builder close to me
i guess its all in who you know. |
I am just curious, how many miles did you get on your car before you had transmission issues?
|
I am at 145000 miles on it.

well, if you wouldnt mind paying for shipping costs, ive got a good friend in my local car club who builds trannys for a living. ive already talked to him before about building and shipping trannys out to people and he's game, just has to get all the info down first. right now i just took back my 4l60e from the 86 LS1 setup to swap for a regular 700r4/4l60. think we paid $1000.00 even for it with a torque converter included. and its warrantied at 763hp/792tq (cus that's what it took to break one of his "light to medium" builds).
whats wrong with yours to begin with? my 94Z is at 180k and just starting to slip at high rpms. you could change your fluid and filter and throw on an aftermarket cooler. |

Slipping and shavings. The fluid has been changed twice this year already and the 2nd time was in May so it wasn't that long ago. Also I step on the gas, and there is a pretty good delay before catching. |

So had the diagnosis done today. Slipping from 1st to 2nd, slipping from 2nd to 3rd, slipping from 3rd to 4th.
Can't do anything above 3000 RPMS as the engine slows down and the transmission can't do anything to get it back up to speed. Metal shavings found. Preliminary estimate: $1200. |

did you flush it or just change the fluid? also, who did the work? how many quarts did they put in? |
