Dual oil coolers for serious track duty
4 Attachment(s)
Hi guys,
After I built my 416 which was generating tons of heat, the oil temps were sky high within 3 laps even on a mild day. To remedy this, I had dual oil coolers installed to the left and right of the radiator. We threw the 1LE oil cooler in the trash, and installed these air to oil coolers instead. Now the radiator no longer cools the oil, so the coolant also runs nice and cool on a hot track day after many hard laps. They each have custom shrouds that funnel the air from the high pressure grille openings through the coolers. I sold the Camaro so I can't do a thorough photo shoot or write up, but I'll do my best. Partial parts list: 2x Setrab 20-row oil coolers, 50-920-7612 Setrab EGM-113 lo profile oil cooler thermostat SETM22AN8 -8 22mm oil cooler adapter -8 Perform-o-flex hose 2x custom shrouds 7's Only Racing at Buttonwillow Raceway did all of the work, top notch shop. If you are fortunate enough to be in CA, drop off your car with Tom and Bette and they will take care of you. Attached are a couple of pics, sorry they aren't the best but they are what I still had in my phone. And to all that had requested this along time ago, sorry I took so long guys. I am running a full season of SCCA racing in the Mustang now. Really miss the Camaro, but am enjoying racing in the 'Stang. |
Hey thanks for taking the time to post this! GL with your Mustang!

What was the highest oil temp you saw after the cooler install?

Before oil coolers: 290 F in 3 laps, had to back off. After oil coolers: 220 F max in 25 min. sessions; Ran hard for two days! I also noticed coolant temps lower, I think I only hit 207 F the entire day. This was on a mild day, I want to say in the 60s to 70s ambient, but I don't recall. On a hot day, these coolers should be able to take anything I throw at them. They need to add this setup to the C7 Z06, LOL |
Thanks! Hope your 1LE went to a good home.

Yes, the Camaro was purchased by a track rat in New Zealand! Kind of cool. He races and also does fun track days with his buddies, the Camaro will be his toy that he can drive to the track with AC and comfort. |
Damn OC that looks like right where my brake vents are?
