The mustang is a 5 year old design, the Camaro is new from the ground up. It is an amazing, beautiful car that can compete with the likes of the Infiniti G37 and even a low end corvette. Can you afford anything close to those? The SS has the same engine as the vette. There are suspension advances, engine advances, body advances, and more. We've waited years for this car, and you want to jump ship because you can afford 2 more cylinders with a Mustang? I would think it out again if I were you.:chevy:

Money for me is not the issue here. Hell I can afford 2 of each Camaro SS, Shelby Gt500 or Challenger SRT/8. It has been three years sense the concept was released to the world. 4.5 months till production starts and NO price has been announced. Hell no one out side of GM has seen both blues or the cyber grey yet. Orders are starting in mid October with no price for the car or options w/ price to speak of. This reminds me of Perter Jackson "Lord of the Rings: Return of the King", right there to the very last minute they were still filming and cutting. I understand wanting to have the best product out for the people, but announcing what people need to here to make a sound and informed decision is something totally different. If this does sound like i am rather Pissed about the whole mess, well you bet your ass I am. hell if they weight till the very last minute to release pricing with options it will be pure pandemonium, like toys are us at Christmas. I mean if GM wants people to get into fights at the dealer ships over the first few cars that come out and then get sued over it then that is there gravy train and I am not on it. I have seen that happen before when the Nissan 350Z first came out. Over 2.5 million letters to build the car and over 600,000 e-mails sense it was announced that the car would be built.

The Challenger SE starts at $21,320, while the R/T starts at $29,320. That's an $8,000 jump from V6 to V8 for a direct competitor that is also a brand new design.

Likewise, the Mustang V6 Premium starts at $22,085, while the GT Premium starts at $28,725. That's a $6640 jump from V6 to V8 for another direct competitor. Who knows if that gap will grow or shrink when the new Mustang design comes out.

Regardless, a $6,000 increase for a V8 Camaro over a V6 would actually be the best bargain of the bunch.

Ah yes pricing. I really don't think GM knows what price it can reasonably sell the camaro as of now.furthermore the economy looks really unstable and from what I have herd a possible recession might be just around the comer if not already here. nonetheless the camaro will have to be very competative with the mustang if it plans take a share of this market. how close you say, 1k diffrence can make or brake the camro at this point.

you know....this is suppose to be a Camaro enthusiast site.....if your saying "if it costs more than _____, I'm getting a Mustang" you're not a Camaro enthusiast. If the Camaro turns out to be $3000 more than a comparable Mustang....then so be it. I'll either pay more or wait a little longer until I can afford the higher price. Chevy has historically always been a little higher in price and you get what you pay for. In this case, I still think you are going to get more than you are paying for. If you buy a Mustang instead over a few $1000 you've just settled for something less...way less.

G8 Comparison

2 Attachment(s)
OK, I have heard this more than once in various threads when the whole price thing comes up....compare it to the G8 Attachment 8613 and the options Attachment 8615

Keep in mind these are Canadian prices....but

G8 from $31,995 MSRP*
G8 GT from $36,995 MSRP*
G8 GXP ??????

If I'm looking for a comparison, I think the GXP would be in line with the SS/RS and I can't find a "from" price on this model. I would "guess" that the GXP will start from at least 40K. This isn't that far off what I'm expecting when I go to the dealer to build my SS/RS, under or around 50K dress up to the nines for the party. That doesn't mean I'm happy about it....just not that far off of what I expected. As I am bent over the dealers desk I will say "thank you GM, might I have another". :fighting0056:

GameOver620 09-30-2008 08:18 AM

base mustang starts at 19k. so if the camaro is starting about 3-4k more i don't see how they are trying to compete with other companies. that 3-4k gap is enough to almost get a fully loaded car

My guess is Scott is sickin' frickin' tired of repeating himself, over and over and over and over again.

I agree. He's said it enough and some just don't listen or are too new and not checking all the threads. Hell, when I was new, I read every single thread cuz I couldn't get enough info, so don't give me the "I'm not going to read all the threads" crap.

If the pricing should not be reasonable (which I doubt) for either the SS or the LT/RS (my choice)... I would NEVER go to a Mustang. I rather drive a Prius first than a mustang.

It's October tomorrow, we have a couple of weeks on hearing more info and Jan is really around the corner for pricing. For those that have been here a while, the time is near. For the new impatient members, hold on, you'll get your answers. :sm1:

:iono: Well, if I had of thought starting this thread a couple of days ago would’ve caused this much hardship amongst Camaro enthusiast, I guess I would’ve never done it, however, I felt that everyone has the right to know what is being said so therefore, allowing them can make up their own minds as to what is good and bad or right and wrong.
I can’t speak for everyone here so I will simply speak for myself when saying that if, when the actual prices are released in January, I find out that it does costs me a little more to own a piece of the North American Thoroughbred Legend Camaro than that of the Weak Pony Mustang, I would gladly pay it with a BIG WIDE SMILE on my face as I drive it off the lot! Although the Mustang is a nice car to look at, it simply isn’t a Camaro!… nor does it offer the excitement that can only be felt while sitting behind the wheel of a 300 hp V6 or 422 hp V8 Chevy! I think NOT! If the Stang’s V6 offers only a mere 210 hp to that of the Camaro’s standard 300 hp V6, my question to you is simply… Why wouldn’t you expect it to cost a grand or two more? If you truly love the Camaro than a grand shouldn’t be this much of a problem… should it? I’m not a dealer, nor am I an employee of GM so when it comes to making my purchase I will be probably paying pretty much close to full MSRP value, however, the Camaro is something I truly want and to do so… I am fully aware of the price I may be required to pay.
From what I’ve been seeing up here, and feel free to prove me wrong, is that Ford is marketing their V6 Mustang almost strictly at the female market. I would have to say that nearly 90% of the V6 Pony cars are driven by women ( and fine ones they are! ) while I would say that 80% of the V8 Stang’s I’ve seen are driven by men ( the cocky SOB’s they may be too! as they cut you off the road ), however, last year Ford went out of their way to offer a special edition Mustang with Pink Stripes down the side and a Pink Ribbon also to commemorate and bring attention to the fight against Breast Cancer. A truly noble gesture indeed for such a worthy cause, however, it was only offered on the V6 version and not the V8, hence the feeling that the V6 is once again a ladies car! I think this would be an excellent idea for GM to do as well … Think about it! … A white Camaro (either V6 or V8) with two pink rally stripes from front to back a pink ribbon on the “C” pillars and head rests (perhaps special pink seats as well) and a portion of each sale going to the Breast Cancer Society too! Hey, not a bad idea!
Now back to the pricing issue! Ok folks, keep your pants on and try not to get too excited or pissed over the estimates which I’ve posted… after all they are only ESTIMATES and not final pricing as I’m sure CamaroScotty will be able to reveal once he is allowed to do so. In response to all the concerns I’ve read here, I phoned my friend yesterday who works at GM’s Head Office here in Oshawa and asked how GM determines the pricing difference between Canada and the United States. I was informed of the following… essentially the Canadian prices are 20% higher to the USA so therefore, if a car costs $39,000 here, than the US price would be approx. $31,200. If you look at the Canadian Price of a 2009 Impala SS and compare it to that of the exact same US Impala SS you will find it to be pretty much correct. There is, however, another factor to consider as well. Cars in Canada require more standard ( safety ) features such as automatic headlamps and others which help drive the base cost up and subsequently since they are not standard in the US, the lack of these features will generally lower the base prices you pay throwing off the 80% rule. If CamaroScotty and others say that the price will be competitive to that of the Mustang, then I’m sure it will! GM would be stupid not to follow this idea since it would only lead to alienating their loyal customers and that is simply something they can’t afford to do at this stage. If the base mustang and challenger start around $20,000 then expect the Camaro to do as well just keep in mind that although we came to the starting line 3rd, we’ll still end up 1st by the time the race is over and the smoke has cleared simply because we are the BEST!… CAMARO RULES!!… Long live the Legend! Again.
Please be patient as there are only 3 months to go before the prices are revealed and the test models arrive for us to enjoy! I have to ask though, as to why if GM is taking orders starting Oct 13th or 15th why they feel that no one needs to know how much they will be asked to pay for what they have ordered. I can only imagine that people will tend to order more than they can afford simply because they didn’t know it would cost that much at the time… so GM better get ready for a rush of option changes come January 1st, 2009! As for the $45,000 I estimated for a fully loaded SS RS, I don’t think anyone out there would truly put that much into a Camaro when you can get a Vette starting at $43? I figure a “Well Equipt” Camaro SS RS should sticker in the $32 - 34 range if from what I’m hearing that the base price will probably be set in the $29,000 US range perhaps, maybe even less since it really doesn‘t require much in the first place.:chevy:

Dude,

Most people don't get worked up over things like this. Try not to let extreme opinions land. It's not easy, I know. This is one reason I don't post as much as I might.

Anyways, you were clear, and I enjoyed the educated speculation.

Cheers!

I still say "Get a rope":paddle::paddle: :D J/K

People are gettn way to bent over the price guesstimates....Unitl we hear final word from our GM Gurus all we can do is guess!

:barf:20% more here in Canada hmmm yes we are getting ripped of again , do people not realize that the Canadian dollar in at 98 c today vs the US that's 2 CENTS difference not 20 CENTS the SS Camaro should only be 2% more expensive here in Canada and don't tell me that automatic headlight switch costs 10.000 what a JOKE , oh and it's even being built in CANADA so shipping would actually be LESS to CANADA since it is MADE IN CANADA I am DISGUSTED and will buy a SS in the U.S some how
