EV Camaro announcement and current Camaro values

1 Attachment(s)
I'm sure everyone has seen the announcement for this generations Camaro production to end in 2024. This also brought the announcement of a EV Camaro and possibly being a 4 door rival to Tesla(please don't turn this thread into EV hate central). I by no means am planning to move to EV, but have entertained the idea of leaving the automotive world and moving into real estate if prices surge high enough.

Before I picked up my 2010 I was shopping for a c6 Corvette. At that time GM unveiled the c8 and Corvette prices skyrocketed what seemed like overnight. Could we see the same scenario for our cars when the EV Camaro is officially announced?

What are everyone's thoughts on how this could impact current market prices?

Being that it is a GM vehicle I wouldn't imagine parts becoming hard to find, but could we be faced with that possibility in the near future?

I bet current values are only going to go up because true Camaro lovers aren’t gonna be too inclined to buy that piece of shit. Real car guys are gonna start scooping up the last of the V8’s. GM has never officially commented on the current 6th gen production ending or the EV version. I hope they just kill the damn thing off rather than make it electric.

I'm not opposed to EV and in fact like the possibilities of watching an EV racing class in the near future. But 4 doors? Not me. Call me old school or whatever, but 4 doors on a car has never evoked feelings of fun looks or performance in my mind and frankly, never will.

As far as GM parts, there are parts already unavailable for the 5th gens. I believe utomakers in the US are only legally obligated to suppoort their vehicles for 5 years after the model year is produced. Try finding a GM tonneau cover for a 2015 convertible, just as an example.

I think we are witnessing the slow death of the automobile as a hobby. In two generations many of us will be gone or otherwise unable to participate. Cars like ours will be like the muscle cars of the 60s - rare and expensive. People will have been so programmed by the government that cars are only for perfunctory uses and nothing more, that the hobby will die. Mass transit will rule.

I rarely hop on Camaro6 since I have a 5th gen so I did not see that.

I have already acquired my toys and will keep them until they bury me. EV is good for a daily if you don't go more than a couple hundred miles in a day, but when you put them under a real load they really suck up the juice. I've seen too many truck tests on YouTube where a 300 mile range goes to less than 100 when you attach a trailer. To me this translates to a short battery range on any EV since I already get crappy mileage because I have acceleration issues.

Nonetheless, similar to how muscle car prices skyrocketed in the 90s because everything from the late 70s and 80s was gutless, you will likely see ICE performance cars become more expensive as more manufacturers push EVs. I don't think mfgs realize how many people are not really in the EV market and don't want one. They might find themselves having a hard time selling them at current premium prices.

I personally can't wait to see the first EV mud trucks. They should be fun to pull out.

EVs are just the stepping stone..Fossil Fuel cars will become extinct eventually but not by EVs..Hydrogen maybe? or some other new technology. That being said, not in my lifetime or in yours will these cars skyrocket in price. There are too many made and still out there, and EVs are not the solution for most people.
