I seems like IOM is the color everyone is getting. Just before production i remember there was a survey asking what color is everyone getting. and IOM was like number 4 and CGM was number one. But i rarely see CGM.

Why did so many people jump ship?

I have CGM and last time I went to the track I'd say 60-70% of the Camaros were CGM. Guess no one jumped ship down here in Houston, lol.

i heard a rumor that there is something (on a molecular level) in the gray paint that breaks down after prolonged sun exposure. any truth to this in the sense of CGM?

I jumped ship and changed from cyber grey to IOM because the color simply pops out in the sun. Cyber grey looks more mysterious and Batman-like..

GM fixed paint quality starting with the 4th Gen's. It should last as long as any 2010 paint color.
