Can anyone tell me what this does

OK guys, this is going to sound dumb, but what exactly is this and what will it do? I'm getting ready to do a few mods and will need to retune afterwards. This came with my car. I assume it was part of the Lingenfelter 650 kit that was installed by Smokeys Dyno by the previous owner. I guess what I'm asking is, can it be used for a remote tune by say Ted Jannetty?

That's a patch cable for a canned tune.

So, basically useless?

Hi
I think, ted works with sct handheld tuner. For me yours isn‘t one.

does it still have the stock tune file on it? if so by returning the car to stock you could then use a remote tuner like dynoSteve or Jannetty..they send you a SCT for you to pull the stock file with and then they can go to town...I think the tune file currently on the car is prob locked...this would be a bigger concern...good luck OP!

I don't think the "canned tune" provided by Lingenfelter was used. The car also has headers which was not part of the Lingenfelter 650 kit. Smokeys Dyno appears to have done the tune themselves since I have the bill stating they installed all the parts including headers, and charged another $650 for "custom tuning including transmission".

Sorry for the ignorance. The last car I modded was a prostreet 468 BBC with about a dozen wires all totaled. :) So if I'm understanding this, I still need to buy a tuner if I go the remote route or just install my mods and take it to a tuner.

Whoever bought the kit from LPE, must have also bought the $650 tuning kit. Then did other mods like headers and paid the installer another 600+ to tune it again.

and if the ecm is locked with the current tune you won't be able to do squat except have a dealer reflash it or get a used stock...do yourself a big favor and read up on this and before doin anything get with a new tuner so they can help guide you thru the process...dynoSteve at RDP is awesome from personal exp and he takes the time to answer any q's..

Thank you sir. I've been to Lingenfelters site dozens of times and never came across the info you pointed out.

How would I figure this out? Is it common to run into this problem?

Many times the ecm is locked by the tuner...so only they can retune it.

You are best to leave it as is until you know what you are doing. Restoring it to stock and driving w/ a stock tune could harm the engine (usually too lean afr).

If it is driving fine...leave it. Bring it to a tuner if you are so inclined, or are going to do any additional mods.

Yes, it drives great. I was wanting to do the DSX pump, flex sensor and injectors. The plan is to move to E85 since 2 stations in my area now have it.

You will need a retune with injectors before driving it.

I know that. One of the reasons I was thinking of a remote tune. Smokeys is only 25 miles from me, so I could just drive it there and have them install the injectors.
