Strange S-60 IRS rear install

Strange Engineering has asked us to help them test out the new Strange S-60 Camaro IRS rear.
The center section arrived today and we will start the install tomorrow.

The S-60 is a bolt in rear center section that is comparable to the 9" in strength and will be a great option for the Camaro crowd.
There are 4 gear ratio options available, 3.54, 3.73, 4.10 and 4.56
Posi options are the Strange S-Trac, Eaton Trutrac and a Detroit Locker. We recommend the S-Trac.
Strange has decided to sell just the center section and let us provide the axles and driveshaft plus any other parts that might be needed for a complete bolt in kit.
The kit will come with Gforce Level 5 Severe duty 31 spline axles.

We will be installing the S-60 in a customers car from Kansas City. I'm sure he will chime in.
The car is a blower car that put down over 1,000 to the tires.

This S-60 has the 3.54 gears and the Strange S-Trac.

I'll post up more photo's tomorrow once we get the install going.

Thanks
Chris @ Gforce

Here is the S-60 next to the OEM Camaro rear.
On our scales the S-60 weighed in at 106.7 lbs with no fluid and with stubs installed, stubs weight around 15 lbs.
The stock rear without stubs and fluid weighed 74.1
Our 9" weighed 131.4 with stubs installed, without stubs it weighs 116 lbs

We got the center section installed today, bolted right in with no problems.

Next up is the driveshaft and axles.
We are going to see if a 4" aluminum shaft will fit in the tunnel with the S-60. This car puts down some serious power so a 4" will be ideal.

We should have more photos tomorrow.

Thanks
Chris

Got the axles installed today, we used our Level 5 Severe duty 31 spline axles for this build.
With 1400+ hp he wont ever have to worry about breaking an axle with these bad boys!

All done, the customer came and took the car for a test drive with me this afternoon and the car drives just like stock with the S-60, nice and smooth.
He will put some miles on the car this summer and give us and Strange some great feedback on how it does. Stay tuned..

Thanks
Chris

Very cool piece.

I have a Lingenfelter dif cooler. Is your diff compatible with my diff cooler?

GFORCE1320 06-13-2013 08:19 PM

There are provisions in the S-60 that would allow a diff cooler to be ran, our fabricated 9" can also be used with a diff cooler.

Thanks
Chris

Big thanks to Chris & Casey at Gforce also the guys at Strange. First time dealing with Gforce and the customer service is great, they were able to deliver a day before scheduled pick up.

Really impressed with the size difference of the s60 compared to stock. This thing is beefy! Yet had enough clearance for the bigger magnaflow exhaust.
Took it out tonight to get some street miles on it. I will say just as smoth and quite as the factory diff.

First thing found a parking lot and cut some tight circles to test out the S-trac posi unit. Really smooth no binding or noise. hit it hard from a stop left two long black stripes on the road (private road with supervision of course). Logged a little over 50 miles, got it home and inspected it. No leaks everything looked great. Driveshaft and axles are badass too!

I will be putting some good hard street miles on it. In the next few weeks Will be going to the track for the real test. Hitting it hard with the trans brake and slicks!!
