Blacked out steering wheel

LEFT: Picture I found on the internet (not mine)
RIGHT: After I covered the steering wheel in vinyl wrap ( I did it myself! )

Sorry for the bad color, my photo was taken with my phone in crappy garage lighting.

Let me know what you think. Improvement? I tend to hate silver steering wheels

EDIT: I took a nicer photo of my steering wheel:

Very nice

ChevyCamaroGirl 04-15-2015 12:21 AM

I'm thinking about doing that to all the silver pieces. Congrats on your new ZL1.

How did you do it?

enzia35 04-15-2015 01:36 AM

Gauge surrounds would look good, but that's going to be a tough job. Maybe I can pop them out and plasti dip them.

3M black matte vinyl wrap, a heat gun and a lot of patients ;)

You lay a solid piece over the steering wheel and then warm it up with the heat gun and work it in with your fingers. Once you get it all tacked down use an exacto knife to trim the excess between the seams.

Total job took me about an hour, it'd probably be half that for a pro.

did you put the wrap over the leather where you hold the steering wheel? It looks like you did, so my question is, did that compromise gripping the wheel? is the wrap slippery?. If so, I think I would have just blacked out the silver parts. The tint of the picture makes it hard to tell what you did to the wheel.

SargeantSarcasm 04-15-2015 10:36 AM

jwl013 04-15-2015 10:46 AM
