This SS...

Hey folks... hope all is well on your end.

So, this ride has 136k miles on it. I've owned it for 3/4 of a decade. Since I've owned it, I've driven all kinds of cars on both business and pleasure, including a 6th gen SS or two.

This car is still my favorite. It unfortunately sits half of a week collecting dust from those nasty Riverside Valley winds... but when I drive it, it is a most beautiful thing. That power is awesome, and that exhaust is the music of the gods!

I drive it every day of every weekend, some weekdays... mostly highway and mostly not in traffic (for example, real early or real late). It will go for many more miles as I will fix whatever breaks, replace with better and badder parts. My friends, I am having a blast owning this SS, and will for many years to come I hope!

Here we are today... I treated the Silver Surfer to a brand new set of Nitto NT555 G2's. 4 Corners - 275's for the front and 315's for the rear. It had been a while since I had all 4 corners match tbh. I had Indy 500 Wide Ovals for the fronts and a Mix of Nitto's (Indy's, NT05's, and NT555's) for the rears for years!

This time though, I needed a new set more out of necessity, than for looks or performance.

Here's my story. My two fronts were my previous rears - 275 wide ovals and when they were - I was wearing 255 wide ovals in the front. When I bought my wheels, I went 315 NT05's for my rears, and kept the 255 wide ovals in the front and put away the 275's. While putting away the 275 wide ovals for about 10 months I wore the 255's until they wore out. The 275's sat after I installed the NT05's. When I switched to my first rear set of NT555 G2's, I put the 275 indy's up front and got rid of both the NT05's and the 255 wide ovals up front..

The above can get a bit confusing, but if you're still following me... when the 275 indy's sat for months, they must have been damaged. In the last month or so I noticed uneven wear on one side of the flat side of the tire, while the other side of the tire still had a good amount of tread. I knew it wasn't an alignment problem because the wear was complete on on side and not on the sides of the tire. Somethings up... I then ran my hand around it and where it was balding out, you could feel imperfections to the flatness of the passenger side front tire, almost like instead of being round - they were more like a 'bolt head', flatter, yet sharp deviations. Wish I took pics but no... and so at this point - Starting to think this could be dangerous... have to order a new set, but not quite yet - couldn't pull the trigger quite yet. Tire's aren't cheap.......

Soon after I noticed that passenger side 275 indy starting to go south, I get a complete flat on my driver's rear 315 NT555 G2. No nail, something must have hit the stem valve. Ruined as I was doing about 45 when it happened before I pulled into a Chevron. I called a tow truck and took it to the local Firestone - where they installed a 315 Dueler.

Now - not only do I have a front passenger tire wearing out unevenly, but I have a rear set of mismatched tires. This sucks... Time to pull the trigger...

And here we are - an awesome set of NT555 G2's on all 4 corners...

This is one very happy camper once again. :)

Good choice on the 555 G2s, my next set of tires! I have a mismatched set as well, I had 275/305 pirelli p zeros, but I got a nail in the front so I switched to 275 hankook s12 ventus up front. I liked the s12s a lot so I wanted them for the rear but realized they dont make bigger than a 275 so I went with 295 nitto invos in the rear. Once the rears go, I'll be going 555g2s all around.

I love driving them twisties. With that Hotchkis suspension and the rear NT555 G2's, I'm often carving through the Elsinore and San Juan hills with confidence... some good fun.

When I had just the rears, I was very happy with them. With the brand new full set now - Christmas in July... :happy0180:

Agreed. Very tasteful and super clean.

I freaking love the silver on the early fifth gens.

Always loved your sig. Off topic but did you just re-use your old SS badge when you did the ZL1 conversion?

I did. Good old emblem adhesive from Amazon. Strong stuff, won't come off.

Very nice ride Spec. Urs is definitely one that I love seeing. Thought at first this was a thread about u getting rid of her but thank god that's not the case. Question for you, do you notice road noise more with the 555G2s? I have the 315s in the rear and I believe they r noisier then the good yeareagles I had. But I'm very happy with them besides that.

Your car look fantastic, even with 136k. Here's to another 100k for you!
