Installing under door LED welcome or courtesy light

6 Attachment(s)
Compared to some of my crazy one of a kind installs this thing was easy. Maybe 1 hour job taking care. You can find these lights either from AAC for well over $100 or on E-bay for only $29. Literally exact same photo matching part. I bought from the manufacturer and they can even do special orders for $65, but low res images only, ie like logo's.

First pic is of the tools and parts installing. There are other DIY's on taking off door panel, very simple. Pop off panel behind handle and rubber piece in other grab handle. Remove small screw by tweeter. Screw behind door handle. Torx screw in grab handle, and three bolts around edge two on bottom other on inside. Slowly loosen top first and entire panel pops off.

Next step is finding location in middle of of panel at the bottom. It's between the map pocket and foam insulation. This is best location for appearance and function. Drill hole with included bit, no need for pilot hole. I marked panel when off, put back on to drill. Watch out you don't get plastic bits in eye:yikes:

Separate mounting ring by loosing torx locking set screw and remove. Feed wire then projector through hole you drilled. Work ring back over wire and down onto light. Tighten to hold in place while you wire. Splice into power for door DRL's, if not equipped should still have wiring. It is the tiny weatherpack with a red and black. It's a little sprout nearest door hinge. Red is positive and blk is ground, naturally. You may use this ground or make your own. I had removed my DRL's, see thread for info about mine, so I reused factory connectors by cutting off DRL and attaching to light. Everybody else should use T-connects or what they are comfortable with, ie butt connectors, soldiering, etc.

Once wired turn on parking lights and aim light. Use hand or piece of paper to see image during day light. Two schools of thought on aiming. Logo should be perpendicular to car when door is open. Either perp at first stop or at full open. In pic it is perp at first stop, not full. One could also do even with door, but would always be at an angle. Once aimed tighten ring and torx bit fastener. Replace door panel and enjoy!!! Factory DRL's come on whenever car is unlocked for 1 min or always when headlights are on.

Hope this helps anyone installing this cool little toy ;)

In picture the connectors at bottom are for my dream color :) Ones you are after is the purple one with red and blk connector spliced in.

The only issue I have is the ones I have seen on sale for 99 a piece don't have a circle around image. Which in my opinion looks so much cleaner and nicer. Feed back?

I am not selling or advising to purchase anything, per forum rules. But here goes if anyone else is interested in the cheaper alternatives.

Since I bought mine prices have gone down. Here's the original dimmer version at $11, http://www.ebay.com/itm/2pcs-LED-Car...b5068e&vxp=mtr

This is the brighter newer 5 watt version $22, http://www.ebay.com/itm/2pcs-Car-Wel...item27cd677fb5
Finally mini 5 watt, http://www.ebay.com/itm/2pcs-Mini-4t...item2a2649b2af

All of these are from China, to be cheapest. These are the exact same AAC sells, just without packaging. Expect 2 weeks for delivery. Search ebay and see what you can find, there are many designs out there. Look for near 100% feedback and high number of purchases.

Here's one from US, 5w version. http://www.ebay.com/itm/2Pcs-Car-Dec...8b5fe2&vxp=mtr

These links may expire, so just do a search on Ebay for LED welcome light

Hope this helps, good luck and post photos when done!!!

I hadn't really seen any without circle... This could be a personal preference thing. I really like the one I choose, I even thought of going custom or Autobot logo. They will make anything you want, including without circle, just gotta find one willing to work and speak english.

Alternately I'm a DIY kind of guy, and the circle part of the image could be blocked out with anything opaque or black.

I think this one is pretty unique, http://www.ebay.com/itm/Car-Door-Lam...2104de&vxp=mtr

Any other thoughts? Pics of no circle?
