I WANT THE TRUTH!!!

hello everyone! just wondering if any body actually installed LT headers and never got a tune... i know that it really isnt effective especially without a tune... but i know there are some out there that never got a tune... and if you didnt, was there even a significant difference in performance?

Besides leaving considerable power on the table you will also get a CEL either immediately or eventually. My advice is to not get headers without a tune and do not get a tune until you are ready to kiss your warranty goodbye. Do these kinds of things properly and you will save yourself a lot of headaches and be much happier with the results.

Lets say I have YET to get a tune. I have LTs and HFCs. I now have a bit of a flat spot during hard accelleration and near constant Check Engine Light (CEL) for the lack of effeciency of the High Flow Cats. I have to clear the code about weekly. Could the flat spot indicate a lean condition? It feels like its lean. The thing sounds so much better its unreal. I am close to ordering a tune from Jannetty.

dont cheap out on a 35,000 dollar car. just not worth it. LTs and tunes go hand in hand.

I'll answer your question if no body else will. Yes they have... and yes they had nice power gains.

Edit: and here's a post for you... http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showpo...&postcount=496

Get a tune.

I drove my 2005 GTO for 5 years with AR long tube headers and no tune. Only time a tuner touched my car was to shut the 02's off that flagged my CEL to come on. Never put it on a dyno, and never had any issues. I just wanted it more for the exhaust note and really couldn't care less for performance. With that said I can tell you that the Camaro is fully tuned. And yes, it makes one hell of a difference!

I didn't tune my car when I installed headers. The reason being I was going to do more upgrades and then do one all-inclusive tune. The headers alone woke the car up. I cannot imagine what a tune would have added but it would have been spectacular. My CEL came on the day after I put them on and stayed on until dismantled the car.

I had a before and after check once my headers and cats were installed. For me my power and torque didn't change much. The only thing that needed minor tweaking was my timing due to some knocking. I know with my setup a tune wasn't necessary for more power, but definitely to eliminate the knocking issue.
