BACH's "Mistress"
"The Mistress" - Named so by the wife because she was jealous of the time I was spending with the car the first week (... or more).
I'll update this first post with the information in chronological order. I'll keep the second post for the list of current mods and a recent photo. The story::readthethread: I'm a car guy, no particular brand since I grew up, but I love the '60s muscle cars. My second car was a '65 Mustang Coupe I got as a junior in high school; 289, 4 bbl Holley, high rise intake, dual exhaust, 4 speed Hurst. I loved that car, but having started a family then college it had to be sold to pay the bills. In early 2009, I was planning for a move from Evanston, Wyoming to Houston, Texas (for work). Since snowmobiles (see pic and link below) don't work so well in the south, I had to get a new toy. Being a car guy and moving to the Hub City, the type of toy was easy - but which one. I really wanted another old school American muscle car, but the time and money to find a clean car and make it a retro-rod was not working in my favor then. Well the new Challenger with the retro had just come to the market and I started searching for one, and of course I had to get the big dog. Let's just say that there isn't quite the volume of "rear wheel drive sports cars" flowing through the midwest as there is in the bigger cities. I couldn't find a 6-speed SRT8 to save my life, let alone any that the dealers didn't have the price marked up more than a base 'vette.:mad0260: This photo is not edited, just taken with a cruddy cell phone and a lot of white powder on top of a mountain overlooking Bear Lake in northern Utah. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/pictur...ictureid=60721 video of me and some friends sledding in Wyoming http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XjZKvLthoSY Then the sun shone through the clouds and the halos appeared - the halo headlights on the new Camaro that is. Ok so that wasn't all good luck at first either. Remember I said I was moving from Wyoming? Well I ordered a new Camaro at my local Evanston Chevy dealer in March 2009. I was given a 12 week lead time for delivery. The next thing you know it's September and I'm moving to Texas - without a car! Come to find out hte dealership lost their franchise license in the whole recession and bailout movement, but they still claimed that they had allocations and would get me my car. Needless to say without them able to give me a date, I cancelled my order and plavced a new order with Lone Star Chevrolet in Houston. I know this dealership has had mixed reviews, but I've bought another vehicle from them since and the sales guys I worked with were great. As long as they treat me fair that's all I ask. But let's just say I don't have high expectations from almost any dealer after you've signed on the line. Anyway 2 months later I had my car. :headbang5thgen: Newborn: built 10-22-09 2010 CGM 2SS/RS M6 - every option but the sunroof http://www.camaro5.com/forums/pictur...ictureid=32805 http://www.camaro5.com/forums/pictur...ictureid=32805 Dealer Mods:

At about 400 miles she met the wrenches...
I had of course been surfing the web looking for a shop to deal with for my mods. I made a trip to Fastlane, talked to GForce at one of the Chevy shows at the GRB Convention Center, and got a quote from LMR. Having just moved to the Houston area, I wanted a shop that I could just drop in and bounce ideas off of, some down to earth guys that didn't make me feel like I was bothering them with all my questions and taking money from them because I wanted to install the bolt-ons myself.
Well I had seen this burly guy in a big Ford truck rolling through my neghborhood several times with an LMR sticker covering the back windshield. Who knew it was Josh - one of the owners? Now of course I didn't get any special discuont out of that, but hey, my thoughts were that he couldn't hide if something went wrong right. Well I tell you what, these guys are so down to earth and personable. They just frickin' love what they do. And it doesn't hurt that they are some of the best at what they do. I haven't spent a lot of money with these guys but they have always been easy to talk to. (It's not that I don't want to spend money, I just have big eyes and a little wallet.) LMR ROCKS!:headbang: http://www.latemodelracecraft.com/ back to the mods... LMR CAI NOT CURRENT CAI - CHANGED TO ROTO-FAB TO INSTALL WINDSHIELD WASHER RELOCATE The CAI was of course the first mod, and I was surprised that you could hear the difference of the engine sucking in a whole lot more air. The LMR CAI was simple and easy - and plastic so it kept my worries about heat transfer down. no tune for now. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/pictur...ictureid=60696 ARH Headers, Cats, and X-Pipe Dec. '09 with 400 miles and a few big boxes from LMR - I love Christmas!! The car goes up on jack stands in my garage with some help from my son and dad (I waited until my dad was there so we could do all do it together), and after a few more questions to ARH and LMR we had the headers, cats and exhaust on the car and sounding AWESOME. I put on the system that stops at the rear axle. I figured most of my gains would be in the headers and cats, and I didn't see the need to change out the mufflers yet since I wasn't going FI - and besides I could always do that anytime. I have a sound clip but it sounds bad because it overranges my video camera. I wish I had a picture of my face with that ear-to-ear smile. My dad and I took her for a spin and holy moly!!! me likely! the throttle response..... the power..... the sound..... and then LMR got another 11 HP from tuning it for the new parts. I'll try to find the dyno sheet and post it up. 412 rwhp. the bugs...I couldn't quite get the exhaust system to bolt up and quit rattling on the tunnel brace or the aluminum shield. One of the cats was quite difficult to get onto the header - silly me I was worried that I could pry to hard and break something on the header. So the great guys at LMR pu the girl on the lift and took a look with me. Come to find out, I had the x-pipe on upside down. Now during installation, I had put this thing on both ways, and called ARH and I swore I put it on the way they said to. But after taking the car back home and turning it over, everything was great. The exhaust needs cycle hot/cold a few times and get up to temperature to find the sweet spot in where it will end up. After that, the exhaust has been great. First Event - Cars and Coffee My first event was a Cars and Coffee in Uptown Park (Houston) where I met the guys from H-Town Camaro club. I've never been in a car club before, but these guys are first class - easy going and firendly, and they'll quickly accept you as one of their own. Everyone loved the exhaust. Turns out, my car is louder than the one of the guys with Kooks headers and SLP loudmouth exhaust! Second Event - Cars and Coffee; Cruising in with the LMR gang I only post this because of its significance - it lead to my second mod of mounting the fire extinguisher.:readthethread: Let's just say that I was the slowest car there. We met at the LMR shop and cruised in 290 to 610 to Upstown park - It didn't take long. Well OK it took me a little longer. As we were getting onto the 610 loop, this black Charger SRT8 starts falling back (I'm bringing up the rear of course). I pull up next to him and he throws his hands up like "I don't know what's wrong":iono:. So we pull over and his car starts smoking from under the hood - UH-OH!! Open the hood and instant flames. I see that it's near the intake so I try to smother with my leather jacket. Of course neither of us had a fire extinguisher and frickin no body would stop to help!!!:mad0259: Then the guys yells like Dom from the Fast and Furious... NOS!!! We grab the race gas and the NOS bottle and put them in my car. And there's nothing we can do but watch it burn...:cry: sorry for the bad cell phone pics... but I'm not a photographer as you can tell by my other photos http://www.camaro5.com/forums/pictur...ictureid=60697 http://www.camaro5.com/forums/pictur...ictureid=60698 and that led to...... fire extinguisher mod Safety first boys and girls... because accidents last.http://www.camaro5.com/forums/pictur...ictureid=32811 |

next mods - appearance: blackout
:thumbsup:Blackout bowties:
I bought the bowtie vinyl and light tints from Big Worm Graphix http://www.bigwormgraphix.net/camaro.htm. Great to deal with. I even ordered some pink vinyl for my wife's Traverse. I did the wheel centers, the front and rear emblems, and even the bowtie on the steering wheel. And yes I still drive it. Camaro http://www.camaro5.com/forums/pictur...ictureid=32810 http://www.camaro5.com/forums/pictur...ictureid=32809 Traverse http://www.camaro5.com/forums/pictur...ictureid=61142 http://www.camaro5.com/forums/pictur...ictureid=61141 Then blackout side markers, tail lights, reverse lights: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/pictur...ictureid=60699 powder coated stock wheels gloss black with black vinyl bowtie: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/pictur...ictureid=60700 I sold the factory optional 21" wheels when I did this. No sense having two sets of black wheels, and it funded a few more mods. Lowering Springs and trailing arms
Nothing like a great deal to spur a buying impulse... BMR offered a package deal on lowering springs and trailing arms and the car jumped on the jack stands once again. Now this took me a few trips to the parts and tool stores because I didn't have the right tools needed to get those stingy bushings out, so it took me a while but the finished product of course looks great!:w00t: http://www.bmrsuspension.com/ Before: at the Camaro Nationals at Lonestar Motorsports Park (Hennessey) http://www.camaro5.com/forums/pictur...ictureid=60718 I'll try to find my time slip from my first ever night of drag racing and post it here. Let's just say it was a learning experience, I couldn't get the car to hook up off the line. OK once I did but then I missed 3rd gear (CRAP!:mad0260::mad0259::facepalm:). And I stalled it off the line once, too. I couldn't find the sweet spot to launch and figure out what to do with the clutch. But it was a blast. The H-Town club puts on a good show. After: at Texas world Speedway for an H-Town club tour and parade lap (haha - let's just say it wasn't at parade speeds) http://www.camaro5.com/forums/pictur...ictureid=50856 Here's the wifey showing me the directions I should be reading: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/pictur...ictureid=60719 (PS - I read the directions but I wasn't going to tell her that.) |
Where is that fire extinguisher mounted btw?
