GM cold air
Hi Al O
I met you at Barrett Jackson last year (That's Fn A O) Ha Ha. GM came out with their own Cold Air Intake. 1. I can buy one and put it on myself (is it worth the $ ?) 2. ( If I buy) Should a GM tech install it with the GM tune? 3. A friend of mine had a dealer do it (is it worth it)? I have a 2016 2SS A8 Thanks ahead of time. |
No-yes-No lol serious you might pickup 10 hp probably less for 600 ish up to you. For what it's worth takes about 50 to really notice it
|
Yes on getting it with the tune. And if a dealer-install preserves any part of any warranty that you'd give up by doing it yourself, give serious consideration to having the dealer do the job. That's what I went through 10 years ago for the car in my sig, and since you're also talking about a mfr's own tune I doubt it's going to be much different for you.
Chances are that GM's own tune will be more driveable overall at a small sacrifice in the peak HP number compared to commonly available tunes (and cheaper than getting dyno-tuned and datalogged to anything better). Norm |
Thanks for the info guys.
I did a 12.11 last fall, totally stock with drag radials. I would love to get into the 11's and keep my warranty.. $575 dealer install. Thanks again |
I believe there are other performance parts now such as headers that will get you in the 11's. I don't think a GM CAI will get you there.
Maybe rephrase the question to ask about all the engine performance stuff. :iono: |

Headers = shot warranty... internals = shot warranty.... |
Well, if you believe what they said on video at Sema, you can buy these items, and if installed at performance chevy dealer u keep the warranty.

"The use of these components in a GM vehicle may adversely affect the original intended performance or handling characteristics of the vehicle. These parts are designed and intended to be used with experts supervising their installation and use, to help assure the proper and safe operation of the vehicle. While these components themselves are warranteed against defects in workmanship or materials for 12 months / unlimited miles, the use of certain Chevrolet Drag Racing Parts in a GM vehicle may result in the failure of other components or systems in the vehicle, which would not be covered under the New Vehicle Limited Warranty. For Drag Racing Parts in this designated with an asterisk (*), installation of such parts may void part or all of the New Vehicle Limited Warranty. Otherwise, vehicles do retain their New Vehicle Limited Warranty coverage with Chevrolet Performance components installed by an authorized GM Dealer or qualified Independent Service Center." Doesn't sound like you keep the warranty in all cases no matter who installs it. The disclaimer also says these parts are for off-road use only so their lawyers are building in some CYA... |
So is the cold air & tune an asterisked part? Especially if it's noted as being at least 49-state compliant?

You can get it at thatcamaropartsguy.com $390 bucks, I installed it myself, took about 45 minutes. Comes with a free flash update from Chevy, the dealership did it when I took it in for an oil change. 12.4 @ 114 mph picked up .4 in the quarter
