Fuel Mileage question

Just returned from a 1700 mile trip in the new SS/RS Vert. I was slightly disappointed in the fuel mileage; I averaged less than 21 MPG. Most of the driving was at steady interstate speeds. I would have thought the MPG would have been higher in the interstate with the top up. Am I expecting too much???

Perhaps, but I've driven mostly highway mileage this summer and am averaging 20.6 mpg. I do travel about 80 mph, though and gun it just about every chance I get.

I've driven multiple 200-450 mile trips in my Auto SS vert and have gotten about 25.5 mpg average going 70-73. I also found for me that between 60-65 is a sweet spot for highway miles I can get a about 27 mpg.

I will get to 7000 miles on my vert this week

lol @ buying a Camaro and complaining about fuel economy. You want GM to cut the balls out of your car any more? Buy a Prius imo.

If I baby it around town I can manage 17, and 22-24 hwy... however that never lasts long. I've learned to accept my 14.5 and 20 and enjoy the hell outta having a bad a$$ car the way it was meant to!

(On a side note tho- last April I did the GA trip and got 20-22 MPG, top down nearly stock... doing it again in a few weeks, curious to see the difference w the headers, tune, exhaust etc)

I'd also be curious about this, do share.

+1 Drago, please let ue know!

Btw I'm getting 20 mpg overall taking it easy for break in. 1,173 miles. 80% city/suburbs, 20% highway.

Couple of things. Top down driving will induce allot of drag, like driving with your windows down in the coupe on the highway. Second is how many miles on the car? SS engines do not wake up and loosen up till about 7,000 to 10,000 miles.

If it's an LS3 M6, that's right in the ballpark.

I wasn't complaining. I'm asking a question. With the question I may find out that I am getting what most average OR that there may be a problem with the fuel management system. Most have offered their experience.

You however are the only one to give me shit about my question. If you don’t have a constructive answer ignore the post.

Thanks for offering the information I was looking for. This is kind of what I was expecting. These are the speeds I was driving with the top up. I would expect lower MPG with the top down.

The mileage may be the issue, I only have 2500 miles or so on the car. Thanks.

I get 26-27mpg at 75-80mph on average due to being supercharged. With top down.

Perhaps it might be benificial if each person that states their milage also mentions which eng/trans they have so we can put things in perspective. V6's typically get much better milage than the V8's.

I have a 2SS/RS Vert with the LS3/M6 with close to 8,000 miles and I average 18.1 mpg overall.
