Any new insights from this design?

There is nothing groundbreaking going on. In fact, it would benefit from a better tube.

Check out the vertical fins inside the box. Is that for decoration or direction?

Totally agree! Talk about soak love the box though! Looks like its setup for induction from the hood? Not sure haven't seen any pics on the z. If we could get the aftermarket for the hood then we would be in business!

looks like there is an oil catch can too

According to Tracy (SC2150) it's not a catch can.

those are baffles to reduce noise, that;s why factory systems are restricted, they have lots of baffles to reduce the noise.

this z28 is probably going to be a $40k+ car, I dont think it will hurt the aftermarket at all as most people wont be able to afford the z28.

however down the road if they start doing this with more cars, yes it could hurt aftermarket.

My aftermarket question was more along the lines of "Will it affect aftermarket CAI designs?". Sorry for not being more clear.

Thats absolutely not a catch can, see the yellow loop, it's a oil dip stick.. LS7 has an dry oil sump because go the G's it does.. Nothing new there other than its location.. On the Z06 it's on the passenger side hidden from view..

Yeah they'll sell less

My guess is that these are pre-production pictures and this air intake will not meet CARB requirements.

Sadly you couldn't touch this car in the $40's. crate Ls7 is $15k

My guess is this car will be at least on par of a ZL1 as it was shown.
