Cammed sound via tune only

I'm wondering if it is possible to generate a "cammed" sound via a tune for the L99 Camaro by increasing the overlap of the VVT cam? In the video below of a 5.0 Mustang (no flames please), the "cammed" sound is produced via a tune only. It's almost unbelieveable when you hear the before and after audio. Using the trackey in the Boss mustang adds this sound and at least one well-regarded tuner has been able to duplicate it in a tune for the GT 5.0 by increasing the overlap of the VVT cams. It probably doesn't add any significant performance gains, but gives the sound if that's all someone is looking for. I would have posted this in the tune section, but so many members like me appreciate the sound of a "cammed" car.

Comp has cams designed just for this... The Thumpr series will not get the power gains but give you the sound...:iono:

I'm not doing the cam, but would love that sound.

The owner of the car said the car returns to the performance tune around 1250 rpm. 4 cams for a 5.0 aren't going to come cheap. Don't know if this would generate the same sound quality on a single cam engine though, hence my post. All the 5.0s have VVT, not just the automatic trans cars.

It's funny because I was thinking the same thing just now, if it's possible to get the cammed sound with a tune. Then I see this thread. So is it possible, if so I'd like to do it.

This kinda makes me wish I had an L99 now! Would love to have the sound, don't want to take the engine apart to get it (at least until the warranty is up).

Unfortunately, now that I think about this idea more, it probably isn't possible using a single cam. Since the 5.0 has separate cams for the intake and exhaust valves on each cylinder head, it's possible to alter the cam phasing using the VVT. I don't think this will work with the intake and exhaust lobes on a single cam. Oh well.....

You took the words right out of my mouth.

You not only need separate intake and exhaust cams they all need to be VVT.

Ted.
