2012 camaro low oil pressure

okay so I have a 2012 camaro with 180k miles . I bought it new . I keep getting a warning message saying low oil pressure . should I take it to the dealer and have them do a diagnostic?

It needs to be checked by someone.

I would find a independent mechanic and go from there. Maybe take a recommendation from a friend or relative that has had good satisfaction from a particular shop.

well I ended up just taking it to the dealership and they said it was the oil pump relay or something like that . I'd have to check the paperwork . but it hasn't come back on since

I had to change my oil pump

Adam63impala 03-19-2022 09:07 AM

yeah I was glad it wasn't that . how many miles were u at and what did they charge ?

Eastbaycamaro 03-19-2022 09:12 AM

I had about 60k and did it myself. I tried the oil pressure sensor but no help. Then I heard the lifters clacking so I know the oil pressure was low. Did all the work myself

do you have to take the motor out and tear into it ?

Eastbaycamaro 03-20-2022 07:49 AM

I tore into it. It was a project. Had to drop the front sub frame about 3-4 inches and raise the motor as high as it could go. Removed the radiator, water pump, and oil cooler. Loosen and slide the rack and pinion fwd, disconnected the sway bar end links. Then I removed the oil and pan and dampener and timming cover. When I removed the pump I notice that the bypass vale was stuck slightly in the open position bypassing the oil back into the inlet of the pump. I replaced it with a Melling oil pump.

I just had this come up on mine actually (2013 LT). I haven’t taken it to the dealership yet because everything is booked for so long. For me though, it only shows up when I go over 4000 rpm. Maybe it’s the bearings? Idk much. Any help would be greatly appreciated before someone can look at it.

To be honest, I have the same problem, maybe it's because of low-quality oil or because of a broken oil pump. I think it is worth looking for the problem in this place. I'm thinking of changing the oil and checking the oil supply system, see here https://casperoilchange.com/15w-40-diesel-oils/ best 15W-40 Diesel Oil reviews on oil, maybe you should use a better one.
