Gen 6 out-dating the Gen 5?

I don't think so IMHO. Occasionally when a new model comes out it really kills the looks of the previous model... Case in point: 2015 Ford F-150 there is only a slight design change, yet I can't get over how my 2014 looks like a dog next to this latest generation.

I truly believe that our Gen 5 is a classic and will be revered for years to come.

Maybe I'm just looking through rose colored glasses?

To me it looks very dated sitting beside a Gen6. I even think the base SS makes the ZL1 look somewhat dated. The 14 and 15 1LEs to me still look as good as the Gen6 and aren't as outdated looking.

Exactly my opinion too! I'll always want to have a Gen 5 in my garage for the rest of my life, whether it's one of the two z's, an ss, or all 3. Timeless retro muscle car!

The 5th gen is the 55 chevy of current cars. The 6th gen imo will never be considered to have a classic musclecar image. I like the 6th gen.....but not the same as I like my "classic" 5th gen. Of course only time will tell.

Agree 100%. It's retro and it's supposed to look dated. They screwed it up in 2014 and screwed it up more with the newest iteration with both looks and pricing. If I could put the new interior in my 2010 SS I'd keep it forever..

The new Mustang makes the previous generation look dated.

The Gen 5, in my opinion, has much more staying power than the Gen 6. This includes the Gen 5 refresh - it is not nearly as "classic" as the 2010-2013 aesthetics. It was weirdly European. I think the 2010-2013 will have the most staying power long-term.

Had over $50,000 in cash and wanted to purchase a new Camaro, I searched for days till I found a new 2015 left over just for the reasons listed above.

I think that the 5th gen looks dated in the fact that there is a newer generation out there now. However, I do not think that the 5th gen looks like a dated vehicle. It is a classic look that I think will be a future desirable vehicle similar to a 1st gen. I hope to add a '69 to my stable one day to sit next to my 5th gen because the 5th gen isn't going anywhere without me.

I don't think it looks dated. They're still fairly similar enough, though I do think the front end of the upcoming ZL-1 looks amazing.

What do I know though? I still like the looks of the C6 over the C7 ;)

To me, the 6th gen feels like a product of the times. They put a 4 cylinder in a Camaro and did European styling like the Mustang. Even though they look mean and are desirable now, they just don't have the cult-like following of the 5th gen.

The 5th gen Camaro concept came out in 2006, so the design of the 5th gen is already over a decade old and I think it's holding up well even when sitting next to a 6th gen. It definitely looks older and a little dated now, but it's still a great design and will be desirable for years to come. When they're classics, they'll be even more desirable. It'll be almost like the 1st gen, IMO. I don't see the same happening with the 6th gen.

New always make the older one look....well, older. I'm older. I've had a young lady smile at me occasionally.

motorhead 08-08-2016 08:00 AM

There are very few cars that have timeless looks. I don't see any of the modern cars achieving that status.

55, 56, 57 chevys, 67, 68 ,69 camaro, 66 to 70 chevelle just to name a few in the Chevy world. 2010 to 2013 Camaro, not so much. Maybe the ZL1 or Z/28 but even those will be a reach. Cars are built to be disposable anymore. The gen5 cars still look great. Just dated though. Wait til they take the place of the thrid and four gen walmart trailer trash beaters. They will get old looking quick.

So this comes up about once a month . Are you trying to justify why you aren't trading in you car on a Gen 6. Sounds like a First World Problem to me. This is like the, I should have bought a V8 debate threads that we see every other week.

Just my opinion ,but yes the 2010 -2013's look dated compared to the Gen 6 but like someone else said the 14 and 15 look dated also just not as much.
