Driveline/U Joint/Transmision noise.... take a listen.

Ok. Car has been making this noise for a long time now. Even before the cam and trip to Atlanta to the F-Body Gathering. So I got under it to figure it out thinking U Joint.

You guys tell me......

The car drives just fine othe than the slight wheel vibrations. Noise has always been realy quiet, almost hard to hear but getting easier to hear.

Here is the noise inside the car idling on jackstands. Noise speeds up with car speed, NOT engine speed. Noise happens even with the car off and in nuetral like the second video shows as I had my son spin the rear wheels and I got under it.

I need to turn the phone. Plus I can put them on youtube in like 30 seconds but the quality sucks. Audio is good though.

So what do you think all that noise is?

Sounds like "clank-uh, clank-uh, clank-uh" to me.

U-joints get my vote. Just what you need, spend $1,400 for a one-piece carbon fiber drive shaft and your noise will be gone.

pq, you got the worst luck..lol....at least when you go in the house at night , you got a hot wife to look at to make all this look like trivial stuff..good luck and keep us posted...with that much noise happening , it should be easy to identify once you get up on a lift..

Sounds like it's inside the transmision almost. Like right under the shifter.

Is it coming from the pumpkin? Is anything coming in contact with the axels or drivshaft?

My 5th 08-13-2011 11:29 PM

Are the drivehsaft bolts tight? Some have worked loose and fallen out.

mlee 08-13-2011 11:47 PM

That's a tough one... but I'm sure we'll get to the bottom of it in a few days and 15 pages...

No. It's from the front. Right at the output shaft area.

CamaroSpike23 08-14-2011 06:42 AM

Mine made the same noise . Sounded like a trans problem. 6 spd
When i had it on the hoist running in 2nd gear i would have sworn it was the trans.
But,
It was the stock posi it took a shit the next time i went for a drive.
DSS 9" is in there now.
Good luck.

mikepage0007 08-14-2011 08:55 AM

yea, i kinda think that it sounds more like a noise the pumpkin would make...def has a hollow sound that resmbles something inside a case hitting...would be simple enough to pop dshaft out and spin tires...
