CAI vs Air Box

I am trying to figure out if I will get more bank for my buck by getting the Hennessey Cold Air Intake system, $410.00 (With heat shield) which supposedly add 14 additional horses or the GM Air box for $450.00. I have not seen any figures on the air box, so I do not know what it might add performance wise. Any suggestions from anyone?

Also, my friend swears by the flowmaster 40 series exhausts, so I might take a look at that.

I am considering the Vararam Ram Air V - see link: http://www.vararam.com/g8.html

They claim +35HP - link gives some spec details & the price is $369 for the G8 GXP version which has an LS3 engine- sales indicated they've used this for their Camaro offerings though not yet posted on their website.

I know you're getting an SS - I'd just make sure Vararam has fully tested the Camaro LS3 before assuming its "plug & play" on yours. Sales email for questions = sales@vararam.com. Here's a link to a Motor Trend article on the G8 GXP and its verison of the LS3 http://www.motortrend.com/features/a...ook/index.html.

They say they've produced a V6 LLT version - I am waiting on specs and install instructions to be sent to me before I order. Also asked questions on how the unit deals with water splashes getting into the intake which is an issue with open filter CAIs. This unit appears to have some protection but asked anyway.

If any member has experiece with Vararam from other models please chime in...

Most cai are roughly the same gains now i am certainly not an expert but most i would say would typcially add 10-15 hp if your lucky. Hennesy is the one I am probably going with. The GMPP one is overpriced and can be gotten cheaper on this forum or elsewhere that straight from your dealer. Late model race craft and also makes one and zzcamaro has one listed under commercial vendors as well.

Ram air is the way to go, and I am sure it WILL BECOME AVAILABLE SOON. I do not buy CAI, where they route it to a corner of the engine bay, that they "Section off" so it does not grab hot air. First off the intake pipes are mostly metal, instead of the factory plastic leading up to "The boxed off section", which will take in heat from the engine compartment way faster than the plastic. If people say they see gains, I would need to see the dyno's for myself. The only thing that may get you gains is a less restrictive filter, and that can also be a bad thing if you have dirt roads or live in a dusty area.

I am using "The Pipeline" by FastLane. It is awesome. I have them for sale for 469, so it is comparable to the price of the others out there.

An additional 35 Horses for $369.00! A heck of a deal. I will check with them to see what the progress is on a system for the 2SS.

Thanks for the input guys.

I would assume a gain in mpg also. Anyone have any numbers here, if this is true that is. TIA!

Mail slot is non-functional. There's a solid piece of metal behind it and probably the hood latch. I don't think the mail slot will ever be functional...
