Recent oil change

I took my 2010 SS to the dealership to get a oil change:emoticon1: before I set out on the highway for a 450 mile road trip back to my college. I noticed that it was a Valvoline sticker in the corner of my front windshield (I never look right after because I'm so used to it being Mobil1), I then grabbed my paperwork and it says they put valvoline maxlife oil in my car. I called the service manager and he insist that maxlife is ok to be used in the V8 models. Is he telling the truth or just saying anything to get me out of his ear? (sorry for long story)

Yeah, I am pretty pissed even though it may not do anything to the engine. It's still that psychological part that has you thinking the car may not be performing as well as it can.

Both of those oils are not on GM's approved list.

This is one reason I do my own maintenance for small things.

If you want the job done right, then do it yourself...

And for good reason.

Good old GM/Mobil synthetic blend with a cute Dexos certification.

The same psychological brainwashing by GM and mobil 1 that has people believing their car simply cannot funtion properly unless you use their oil. ;)
Dont worry, you'll be fine. Just remember to ask for the mobil 1 next time. Dealerships cannot be trusted!

It still isn't good to switch back and fourth between oil brands.

Because regardless of weight each company uses there own combination of additve packages. Were not talking complete engine destruction here but there are differences.

That is true...but these different additive packages mixed together aren't going to do any harm at all. It really doesn't matter, as long as you use oil approved for the engine that is the correct weight.

That's kind of like saying 87 octace won't hinder performance compared to 93 octane.
