Father bought 2014 mustang gt

I have a 15 ss m6. Im currently headers, cai tune. He just had his mustang tuned with headers and the 2018 intake manifold. Hes an automatic. My car put down 435hp/447tq. He put down 440/385. We decided to do some pulls. Can someone explain to me how i still won? His car is geared better, lighter and put down more horsepower with an automatic. I guess it goes to show dyno numbers don’t mean everything. My car is about 200lbs heavier. I do 154mph in 4th gear. I hear about coyotes trapping 118-120 with his mods. I don’t understand it. He went to an extremely reputable tuner in a nj called jdm

Torque wins races !! What’s that saying ?. Hp measures how hard you hit the wall torque measures how far you go through it ..

I was arguing with the shop owner that he was full of shit. From what ive seen coyote gen 1s full bolt on usually dyno around 400-415whp. Driving these cars back to back its night and day. They rev to the moon but have zero low end. I could see how bigger gears would help them because the car does 80 in second gear shifting at 7800 rpm. I do 78mph in second at 6500 rpm haha These two cars are extremely fun to race, even with the ford having the extra intake manifold mod.

I have a friend with a fbo 5.0. Headers....boss intake ..cai and exhaust with a good tune from a Ford specific shop. He puts down 425 whp. He can cut a 1.9 sixty foot on street tires in that manual. His bottom end torque didnt suffer at all. His top end is fantastic with that Boss intake. I think he shifts at 8000 now at the track. He has 355 gears..the autos have 331s I believe.

Agree, your massive torque advantage is going to get you off the line more quickly and he’s never going to catch back up with the small hp advantage or the gearing advantage he has.

The 5.0 has great top end. The #s are pretty high for this car for his mods. He lost because he isn't making those whp #s. Equal cars with equal power numbers have the Mustang hard to beat up top.

Sounds like you know how to drive a manual transmission.
LS3 5th gen Camaros with basic bolt-ons are very quick if the driver knows how to shift.
I've seen too many M6 Camaros lose a race because the driver is making a sandwich between the gears. Some people seem to think shifting at 5,000 RPM is optimal for performance too...

The tr6060 is one of the most inconsistent shifting transmissions i've ever driven, at least in my car. I can't shift as fast as i want because i never know what it's gonna do. If i shift under 6200rpm it seems to shift faster and i get a grind going in, but there's no delay if i shift at 6800 it hit a brick wall for a split second before it will go in... then once in a blue moon i'll bet it to slide right in with 0 issue... but i'm not prepared for it to so i still don't get as fast a shift as i should have. This is mostly 1-2. And 2-3 shifts. So frustrating. My buddy had a muncy 4 speed in his 69 camaro and that thing would shift lightning fast like there wasn't even gears there...

On a "basic" level, as in solid axle, maybe, but not really.

Price
Power
Space
Weight
Torque

LS3/L99 > Coyote

Ask him how those high rev's and hp per cubic inch are helping him.

lemontwist 05-29-2020 09:17 PM

the obvious answer is he has a ford
