2012 Camaro - New Color and Options Info

Reported on HOMEPAGE.

Yes, it's not yet even 2011, but some info on the 2012 Camaro has already come to light. The 2012 model is due sometime in middle of 2011 (June-July) and will feature the following new color and options.

Note: these may not be inclusive of all the new options/features and do not reflect any potential styling changes. Info courtesy of BeckyD@RodgersChevrolet

  • New V6 engine option: "LFX 3.6L SIDI, DOHC, VVT, E85 MAX, Alum GM" (see HERE for discussion)
    • The LFX should displace 3.6L, like the current V6 found in the Camaro. And it's packed to the brim with advanced technologies like Spark-Ignition Direct-Injection, Dual Overhead Cams, Variable Valve Timing, and E85 capability!!
  • New Carbon Flash Metallic (aka Black Granite) color (2SS and 2LT only)
  • 45th Anniversary Appearance Package (2SS and 2LT only)
  • 3 sets of 20" wheel designs (likely one for 45th anniversary package)
  • Rear view camera (2SS, 1SS, 2Lt, and 1LT)
  • Suspension system special ride and handling (FE4) (2SS coupe, 1SS coupe only)
  • No mention of navigation system (yet?)

The 2012 camaro colors will be:

  • Carbon Flash
  • Silver Ice
  • Summit White
  • Black
  • Red Jewel
  • Cyber Gray
  • Victory Red
  • Rally Yellow
  • Inferno Orange
  • Imperial Blue

What is up with them limiting colors to certain models. DUMB! I'm excited to see the different wheels though...and whats this special suspension all about?

TooCool5 12-29-2010 11:26 AM

What about the new dash design?

As mentioned above, styling changes are not yet known or confirmed.

MotorCityAgent 12-29-2010 11:29 AM

AWESOME!!!!!!!!! When can I buy?!?!?!?

SlingShot 12-29-2010 11:30 AM

Glad to see the Black Granite, they should of did this from the start ...

OldTimer 12-29-2010 11:53 AM

Many of today's cars/trucks with rear view camera's are located in the interior rear view mirror's. So the inclusion of a rear view camera no longer requires a nav system.

RLHMARINES 12-29-2010 11:53 AM

Glad to see new info coming out again on the 2012's.

slick rick 12-29-2010 11:55 AM

  • Rear view camera (2SS, 1SS, 2Lt, and 1LT)

What are the odds that they will get rid of the rear sensors if they use a rear camera instead?

+1...This is most likely the route GM will take IMO.

Berean 12-29-2010 12:02 PM

Isn't the interior supposed to be redesigned as well?

cab2g 12-29-2010 12:02 PM

GM really hates blue.... weird. I would've thought for sure that they'd be announcing a new blue for 2012. IBM is too dark!

Anyway, the backup camera is nice. I can't wait to see what the appearance packages look like! I'll be jealous of course!

I'm excited that they're adding suspension options as well. This may shut up MT regarding the loose suspension. ...And they're upgrading the interior! This had better shut reviewers up! Again, I'll be jealous, but you can't wait to buy forever, they always improve the next year!

2010 SSRS 12-29-2010 12:12 PM

hopefully they offer rear end gear options like the enemy does and factory Chrome wheels would be great to.

Entaille 12-29-2010 12:18 PM

hmm nothing that is making me too jealous. good additions none the less.

BlkThndr66 12-29-2010 12:19 PM

Mine.

Although I can't wait for the Z28 info... :paddle:

DANG I would love to see the Black Granite color. probably a metalic black that Mercedes Benz uses.
Im glad those rumors about the Dumbo side mirrors were only rumors :-)

If they were to put on those dumbo side mirrors in the US, I'd never want to upgrade. Those looked so horrible on this car it wasn't even laughable. It was just horrible.

Yes! I wish they revived the ABM or at least offered another blue like it =(

What does Carbon Flash Metallic look like?

Go to any Chevy dealer and look at the Impala's and you will see the Black Granite ... It's kinda like the IBM but in black with heavy silver and gray flakes ...

DarkneSS 12-29-2010 12:35 PM

I like this, their adding some really cool stuff but nothing that will make us current owners upset that we didn't wait or something. Like V6 owners would be so angry if they added a turbo or V8 guys if they added new gearing options or a more powerful factory tune etc.

I hope they make some of this stuff available as accessories too, I'd be interested in the 2lt looks packages.

As said in the first post, the changes listed do not reflect any potential styling changes we may eventually see on the 2012 Camaro.

Amen to that - need a med blue or bring Aqua Blue back!

spurscar 12-29-2010 12:48 PM

Always the case that something's released AFTER you buy.

I really wanted a black granite color but not flat black which is why I got cyber gray.

Ah well. I'm sure this is the first of a few new things to be announced I'll wish I had.

Shurenuff 12-29-2010 12:50 PM

So is the color a metallic black or a dark gray metallic? When I hear the word carbon, I think dark gray, not black.

So the LS will be dropped? If not then it's ok for LS drivers to back up into things? :iono:

The LS is the base model. I'm sure a backup camera will not be an option, just as the C&C package, sunroof, and the RS package are not available on the LS.

No, I just think it's a ploy to get people to upgrade to 1LT. They did the same thing with the sunroof option and RS package. They did a similar thing with the 1SS and did not allow you to add the C&C package, but this is actually changing later for the 2011 MY. It never made sense that you could get C&C with the 1LT but not the 1SS. It was merely a ploy to get people to upgrade to the 2SS. It worked on me! I don't regret having leather though, but I probably would not have missed it if I didn't have it.

why are you trying to scare people about the dumbo mirrors? lol. Those things looked terrible. IF GM puts those on ALL Camaros then I know that the Camaro is only going to go downhill in future revisions. If it is some safety requirement for a certain country, then that makes sense, but those mirrors do not belong on a Camaro.

nester7929 12-29-2010 01:12 PM

I'm anxious to see what this 45th anniversary package looks like.

LAWMAN 12-29-2010 01:16 PM

so far the only thing i wish i had on my 10' is the hud, which we now know will work on the 10's thanks to a couple of c5 members,i hav'nt bit and had mine installed yet,but i will,...did everyone notice that there will also be two special spring edition camaro's? the synergy and the xm,the synergy is gonna look very nice,

devildoc 12-29-2010 01:17 PM

Interesting.....again limiting colors (like original synergy green pkg) so stupid

RAdams 12-29-2010 01:20 PM

According to DuPont, the popularity of blue is (unfortunately) on the decline. Their 2010 report on most popular automotive colors shows it at 5% globally while it was at 9% according to the 2009 report.

As for the dumbo mirrors... there will always be aftermarket sources so that shouldn't be a big worry.

justinyvehc 12-29-2010 01:25 PM

If they never improved and added features there would be know temptation for those that already have one to want to buy a new one. I think they plan out all the features in the first design and just slowly release them a few each year.

Mine will be paid off when the Z28 is released and i'll be trading up for sure, Althou I think I will probably wait for a 2nd year production of the Z's so as not to miss out on any little addtions they might add in.

Backup up camera will be a plus. These things have so many blind spots when reversing

When are they going to add height adjustment to the passenger's seat?! IMO this is the biggest shortcoming and the easiest to fix! Most passengers that ride in my car dislike the car for this simple reason.

The trend has also been related to green and blue. One color rises in populatrity and the other one falls. It's only between those two colors too. In the 90's green was more popular, the 2000's was blue and now the trend seems to be going back to green. Everyone screams about bringing back aqua blue or a color like that but not many people bought that color. I would venture a guess that synergy green is a lot more popular and that's why it is still offered.
