does the LS3 have Active Fuel Management? (Manual Trans)

ive been looking all over the place, and it seems like they only advertise that the Auto has Active Fuel Management, i am ordering a Camaro SS w/ the LS3 stick. i wanna know if it will run on 4 cylinders in traffic/ while cruising. this may sway my decision between auto and stick....

I don't think the manual will have the AFM.

kdbolt70 02-06-2009 09:04 AM

nope, the LS3 definitely does not have AFM. I imagine that would be a programming nightmare with the driver in full control of the gears.

ignito4909 02-06-2009 09:05 AM

awww... but it should still get 23+ hwy mpg rite????... anything lower gets the gas guzzler tax... in CA at least

ignito4909 02-06-2009 09:08 AM

ok that does make sense, and i kinda figured that... thanks for the ridiculously fast response :) . i was gonna call my chevy dealer but its too early in the am plus alot of them have no idea whats going on lol

one more quick??? when i do go in to order, do i hafta go through all the financing mumbo jumbo (ie run my credit, wait an hour, argue w/ salesman and all that jaz), or do i pay my $500 and leave???

boxmonkeyracing 02-06-2009 09:22 AM

Search button... Both have been asked before.

GTAHVIT 02-06-2009 09:39 AM

To be clear.

AFM is only available on the Auto (L99). And the Camaro will not have the gas guzzler tax.

Oh for heavens sake. The fact that the LS3 will not have Active Fuel Management (AFM) was stated up fornt in all the initial inforamtion releases from GM.

I am trying to be nice here, but dayum, this horse has been beaten to death.

That's how my dealer treated me, I gave him a $500 check (actully ordered for my son who is in Iraq), he gave me my Pre-Order WorkBench print out and a recipt for my $500. But then again I purchased 6 vette's from him so he better not have asked for anything more.

You don't need to do all this until the car actually comes in.

AFM requires the torque converter of an automatic in order to operate smoothly. Otherwise it would be a much harsher engagement.
