Hi gang, bought my 2011 2SS/RS L99 Camaro, black/orange on February 2nd. I'm new to Camaro's but not the LSx world. I owned an '04 GTO that I raced quite a bit ending up with a homebuilt 408; the Goat would run 11.5's at 117mph all day long.

So the SS will follow a similar path, albeit better planned based on my experience.

Phase 1 will be all the bolt-ons and mods for an automatic. Then we'll see.

First up: debadging and SS emblems.

Next: Borla Touring cat-back installed. I chose the Touring because this will be a daily driver. It is rather mild.

Let the modding begin! Comments welcome. :D

My first visit to Steele, AL - Alabama International Dragway - since April of 2009. A beautiful February day, 68*F. Great place to race, and I ran into some old racing buddies and met some new ones.

Out of the box, full weight+, stock street tires, only mod is the Borla Touring cat-back exhaust, I ran:

Sixty-foot: 2.057
1/8th mile: 8.828 @ 81.87
1/4 mile: 13.523 @ 105.10

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-cJ15EG7xIG...110213-012.JPGhttp://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Hwzo0v-5dM...110213-001.JPG

I met a fellow in a 2009 Ford Shelby GT500, a supercharged car with more than 550 HP to the wheels (mine is maybe 350). His mods are a cold-air intake, a pulley on the supercharger, and a cat-back exhaust. I challenged him to a heads-up race, promising to get it on video. Here we go with my handheld IPod video:

I ran a 2.031 60', 13.447@105.74 and he beat me handily with a 2.051 60', 11.781@122.88. And fun was had by all. Since he was on street tires, his sixty could have been better, so technically I took him on the launch, but all I saw was tail lights after that. Nice race, Neal!

After some cool-down time chatting with other racers, I decided for one last run. Turned out to be my personal best (of 7 runs):

Sixty-foot: 1.982
1/8th mile: 8.613 @ 83.77
1/4 mile: 13.224 @ 106.76

:happyanim:

Good lane choice, a bit cooler (64*F and <190*f on the coolant), and a decent burnout (smoking the stock street tires) seemed to do the trick.

When I left, the car had 444 miles on the clock.

Got the windows tinted. Also added a mirrored insert to the faux hood scoop, which is a great looking mod.

Plus, I installed BMR Trailing Arms. I had added a BMR Tunnel Brace when I did the Borla install.

Got the Fastlane Pipeline 4" "Down and Out" CAI installed today. All in all pretty easy to install, except removing the washer fluid resevoir, which had three bolts you had to squeeze to get to.

Getting rid of the stock intake really frees up a lot of space in the bay.

Next up will be the JBA Shorty Headers and JBA High-flow Catted Midpipes. That will be a little tougher (so far everything without a lift), but should be satisfying when done.

If you are planning on the serious mods you described in the first post why shorties? LT's would be much much better. Just asking bc you mentioned that you wanted to be smart about it.

I ride with cops a lot, and it's easier to explain shorty headers than LT's. :D When I have lunch with the chief, I want to be able to talk about racing and at least be able to pretend that the car is street legal. ;)

From a performance perspective, I will leave some horsepower on the table, but not a lot, and it will still open up the restrictions. Then there are some benefits like ease of install and easier tuning (not tuning out O2 sensors).

Good question, though. :)

I'd also add that gears, torque converter and drag radials will all be on by the end of the month, and that'll keep me door to door with any similary equipped Longtube LS3.

Round Two at Steele: 12.8's out of the box, best of 12.7.

Previous best: 13.224 @ 106.76 with Cat-back only (Borla Touring).

Only changes: CAI (Fastlane Pipeline 4") and my own custom A6 tune with HP Tuners. No other mods to PE, VE, or spark (or anything motor).

Best run:
Sixty: 1.942 (stock 20" PZeros at 27psi)
1/8: 8.282
MPH: 86.98
1/4: 12.761 MPH: 109.38

Overcast in the 40'sF at Steele, good track prep.

The car chirped the 1-2 shift, so you can see how much the A6 tune helped. It was almost too good a tune for the launch. My DR's are in the mail.

Timeslip attached. 1000 miles on the odo.

Video:

Inside video (hung my ipod from the sunroof):

Fun day! :happyanim:

Tentative mods in the coming days: Shorties/Midpipes, UDPulley/EWP, 18"rims/DR's, 3.45's/2800TC. Next time up, deeper into the 12's.

Thanks. :)

I think I'll rename to thread since the modding/racing has begun.

The way things are working out, I may just hold up on the installs so that I get a mod-by-mod measure at the track. That would be pretty interesting.

I got a tracking number on the wheels, so I should have them by Friday and back to the track on March 20th.
